Thisfinvention relates to `an escutcheon plate `for door locks and the like and especially to means for securing the escutcheon late against removal with relation to' the oor and the lock housing.
The object of the present invention is to generally improve and simplify the construction and voperation of securing mechanisms of the character described; to provide a mechanism which' permits an escutcheon plate to bereadily and quickly attached to a door lock and rigidly secured when apphed; la mechanism vwhich also permits easy removal of the escutcheon plate for inspection, repair of the door lock, etc.; a mecha- -'nism which eliminates the use of exterior screws and like fastening means; and furthermore a. mechanism of this character which is spring actuatedv and as such prea0 vents loosenin or rattling of the' escutcheon plate 'and acci ental release of the same.
One form which my invention may assume isaexemplied in theY following Y description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is an edge view of a door partially in section 4showing theY application of the invention.' v f Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the l0 plates employed in connection'with the door lock housing and the spring, said view also showing the spring actuated latchwhereby the `escutcheon plate is secured.

While the fastening means here shown is more or less specifically illustrated, I wish it understood that various changes in form and proportion may be resorted.to within the scope of the appended claims; similarly, that the materials and finish of the several parts employed may be such as the' experience an judgment of the manufacture may dictate or various uses may demand.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to securely by Letters Patent is- 1. .The combination with the housing of a door lock and an escutcheon plate therefor,
.of a hook like member on the escutcheon plate engageable with the door lock housing, and a spring actuated latchin member cooperating therewith to secure t e escutcheon plate on the housing.
2. The combination with the housing of a door lock, of an escutcheon plate forming a cover therefor, said late having a flange formed thereon whic surrounds and embraces the lock housing, a projecting lug on the housing, an intel-engaging member formed on the escutcheon plate, and a spring latch carried b the housing and engageable with the escutc con plate to secure the same against removal. l 3. In a lock of the character described, circular plate forming a portion of the lock housing, a circular shaped escutcheon plate forming a cover therefor, said plate having an annular flange formed thereon embracing the lock housing plate, a lug on the flange of the escutcheon plate adapted to interlock with the lock housing plate, a notch formed in the escutcheon plate near the center portion thereof, and a spring latch carried by the lock housin plate and adapted to project throu h sai notch to engage and secure the escutc eon plate.
4. In a lock of the character described a lock housing, a central hub portion thereon, an escutcheon plate forming a cover `for the lock housing, said plate q'having a central openin formed therein in alignment with the hug on the lock housino, and a spring latch-carried by the hub and adapted to engage the peripheral edge of the central opening in the plate to secure the same to the lock housing. l
