BUILDING TILE; I
- Application filed March 14,1927, SerialNo. 175,229.
* The present invention relates to improve I tile or block which includes a flat body, one
end portion thereof being disposed laterally whereby to form a spacing means between the inner and outer wall sections.
A still further object is to provide a tile of the above mentioned character, which simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the .2 course of the following detailed description.
In the accompanyingdrawing, forming a partof this application, and in which like reference characters designate corresponding partsthroughout the views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of. a hollow wall formed by my improved building tiles,
. certain of the tiles being shown in section.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of the tile per se, and I Figure 3 is a perspective view thereof. In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred em bodiment of my. invention, the numeral 1' designates generally my improved tile or building block, the same being formed of clay, concrete or other plastic material. The tile comprises an elongated fiat body portion 2, one end of which is curved as illustrated'at 3, for providing the laterally extending portion 4: which is disposed at substantially right angles with respect to the body. The outer end of the lateral extension 4 is cut away at its corners as at 5 to provide a shoulder 6 and the purpose thereof will behereinafter more fully described. 7 v I The otherend of the fiat body is cut away at an angle as is indicated at 7, and thecut away end is curved transversely throughout 7 its entire length as'is clearlyillustrated in the several figures of the drawing, for a purtending rib 10,-and this construction-is more clearly-shown in Figures 2 and 3.
' tween the opposed tiles.
pose also to be hereinafter more fully described, The inner face-ofv the block or tile l I body, is cut out as illustrated at 8 and 9 wherebyfto form a central transversely ex- In forming or constructing a hollow wall, which may be used as an outside wall,- a par tition Iwall, or'a curtain wall, the blocks or 1 tiles are arran'ged'in the manner shown more clearly in Figure 1, whereby the outer faces of the tiles will form the inner and outer sides respectively of the hollow wall and the inwardly directedfianges or curved ends of the tiles will provide spacing means beaway end"? of-one tile will abut and fit snugly against the curved portion. 3 of the adjacent tile when the tiles are arranged in the same plane for forming one side of the hollow. wall and manifestly the shoulders 6 formed on the ends of the laterally disposed-portions will engage the central rib lO of the opposed tiles as shown clearly in Figure 1, thereby forming a'hol'low'wall consisting of interlocked tiles built to the ar rangement of the ribs and the co acting shoulders. The shoulder 6 is of, a length slightly less than'the width ofthe cut-out portion 8, formed on the innerface of each against the'rib of the opposed tile.
' It will thus be seen from; the foregoing del i I scriptionthat I have provided a tile used principally in V forming or building hollow walls and when the wall has been'completed thesame may be plastered in the usual man-r ner.".-
l While'I have shown thepreferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood a tile, so that the shoulder will fit properly that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement ofparts may be resortedto without departing from the spirit o-f'the invention or the scope of the claims; r
lVhat I claim is: p g 1. In a tile for building walls, a' fiat bo'dy, one end portion thereof being disposed later; ally, the inner faceof the flatbody being cut out to provide a'transverse rib,and a shoula pflthelaterally der formed on the outer end disposed end portion;
g 2. In a buildingconstruction, spaced inner and outer walls built of a series of tiles, each tile comprising a flat body, one'end thereof appended Q a v The curved cut- I 1 heing disposed laterally, the other end central transverserib, the outerendofthe laterally disposed portion being cut away at its' corners. to provide a shoulder WlllCll'lS i of. a length less than -thewidth ofthe cut.
out portions formed in the innerface of the flat body whereby the shoulder may freely 10 slide in one of the cut out portions of the adjacent tiles for abutting engagement With the aforementioned rib of the opposed tile. In testimony whereof- I afIiX my signature.
