ICE- CHOPPING DEVICE.
Application filed January 22, 1926.
This invention relates generally to ice chopping machines, the invention having more particular reference to a novel type of ice chopping machine. The invention has for an object the provision of an improved ice chopping` machine which will act more efficiently in breaking up the ice. A further object is to provide la device which will distribute the ice to the refrigerator.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which Vthe various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

As here embodied my improved ice chopping machine comprisesI brieiiy a box or receiver 10 havingits ends open as clearly shown on the accompanying drawing, the receiver 10 being preferably made up of suitable members securely held together by means of suitable straps 11 or any other suitable binders, and having rotatively attached thereto at its forward extremity wheels 12 or rollers, by means of which my improved device may be readily moved to any desired location, and which also cause the bottom 13 of the receiver 10 to be slightly inclined toward the rear, the protruding member 14 serving as a means to facilitate placing or sliding a block of ice into the receiver 10.
The block of ice thus placed or slid into the receiver 10 is broken by means of a plurality of spilres 15 or similar sharp pointed instruments, depending downward from the board 16, slidably mounted on the vertical rods 17 and positioned directly above the block of ice, normally held in an upper position by means of springs 18 on the said vertical rods and interposed between the top of the receiver 10 and the board 16 and attached thereto. The said spikes 15 may be Serial No. 82,990.
forced downwardly into the said block of ice by means of a pull or outward pressure on the handle 19, conveniently located and in tegral with or attached to the bar 19', which is pivoted by means of pins and to the discs 21 and Q2 rotatively mounted in the side of the receiver' 10 and a cross rod 20, located directly above the said board 16 is connected at one end to the bar 19. The re ceiver 10 is formed with arcuate slots 10 to permit a downward motion of rod Q0 when the handle is pulled.
As a means of assisting to force the spikes 15 into the said block of ice, I have provided a counterweight 25 integral withv or attached to the graduated disc 26 rotatively mounted by pin 27 in the side of the receiver 10 and having the other end of rod 2O connected therewith. The graduations 28, preferably in inches, being located adjacent to the radial slot 29 in the graduated disc 26 and a similar slot 30 being located in the side of the receiver so as to register with the said groove 29 by means of a thumb screw 31, the amount of downward movement of the board 1G being thus predetermined.
To facilitatev the filling of refrigerators and the like, I have provided a platform 32 of suitable construction to receive the said ice after it has been broken, and hinged doors 33 and 34 having depending cords or suitable cables 35 and 36 respectively, and eyes 37 or similar hooks to accommodate the said. cords 35 and 36 so as to permit of guiding the said cords to any suitable and convenient location as a means of opening and closing the doors 33 and 34. It will be understood that the receiver 10 may be pushed or rolled so that its rear ends will coincide with the desired refrigerator doors.
It will be further understood that my improved device may be made of any suitable materials and in any dimensions to accomodate different sizes of blocks of ice.
While I have above described the preferred form, construction and arrangement of the several elements employed, it will be understood that the device is, nevertheless susceptible of considerable modification therein, and I therefore reserve the privilege of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follower" l. An ice chopping machine comprising an outer casing having open ends`spaced bars interposed between the top and bottom walls of said outer casing positioned substantially perpendicular to said top and bottom walls, a platform slidably mounted on said spaced bars, a plurality of series of pointed projections depending from the lower side of said platform, springs disposed-around said bars and interposed between the top wall of said casing and the upper surface of said slidable platform adapted to urge said platform upwardly, discs rotatably mounted on the outside of the casing, a bar pivotally connected to the discs, a handle attached to the bar, across rod located vdirectly above the platform and having;v its ends projecting through arcuate slots in the casing. one end of the cross rod being connected to the said latter mentioned bar, a disc with an attached counter-weight, rotatably mounted on the outside of the casing` and the other end of the said cross rod being connected to the latter mentioned disc. f

An ice chopping machine comprising` an outer casing having open ends, spaced lpointed projections depending from the bars interposed between the top and bottom Walls of said outer casing positioned substantially perpendicular to said top and bottom walls, a platform slidably mounted on said spaced bars, a plurality of series of lower side of said platform, springs disposed around said bars and interposedV between the top wall of said casing and the upper surface of said slidable platform adapted to urge said plat-form upwardly, discs rotatably mounted on the outside of the casing, a bar pivotally connected to the discs, handle attached to the bar, a cross rod located directly above the platform and having` its ends projecting' through arcuate slots in the casing, one end of the cross rod being cennected to the said latter mentioned bar, a disc with an attached countcrweight, rotatably mounted on the outside of the casing, the other end of the said cross rod beingl connected to the latter mentioned disc, and means for limiting' the possible movement of the latter mentioned disc to a predetermined amount.
