This invention relates to a window cleaning device, particularly of the type functioning automatically. The invention has for an object the provision of an inexpensive device capable of being attached to a window for automatic cleaning thereof, eliminating the necessity of personal risk of injury in attempting the cleaning of the exterior of a window.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Referring to the drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:

Fig. 4 shows a fragmentary vertical sectional view of a modification applicable to the invention.
The numeral 10 indicates the window opening of the building, housing slidable frames 11 and 12, carrying the glass panes 13. The frame 11 is slightly raised, allowing the U- shaped bracket 14 to be slipped onto the bottom edge, and clamped thereto by the set screw 15. The base frame 14 is slightly longer than the width of the window, and has depending from each end a projecting boss lfi, supporting vertical rods 17 having the binding strip 18 fixed across their upper ends.
The brush 19 extends the full width of the window pane, and has an ear 19 projecting from each end, being fixed to a shaft 20, pivotally mounted on another shaft 21 fixed at each end to a pair of roller guides 22 slidably mounted on the said vertical rods 17. Coil springs 23, having one end fixed to the shaft 20, and the other end to the frame of the roller guides 22, normally urge the brush 19 away from the window pane.
A horizontal rod 24 is supported at the ends between the vertical rods 17 and carries thereon a drum 25 rotatably mounted, said drum 25 housing a spring 26 having one end fastened to said drum and the other to said rod 24. Cord 27, having one end fixed to said drum, is wound around the drum, and the other end of said cord being fastened to the shaft 20 of the brush support. The action of spring 26 being to n01 mally urge the brush 19, the roller guides 22, and associated parts to the uppermost position.
A lug 28 fastened to the center of shaft 20, has string 29 attached thereto, said string leadin around a pulley 3O rotatably mounted in bracket 14. Drawing on the string 29, results in the brush 19 bearing against the window pane 13, overcoming the counter action of springs 23, and simultaneously causing the brush 19, and associated parts to descend against the restraining action of spring 26. After brush 19 has reached the bottom of the window pane, the string 29 is released, and springs 23, and 26 will return parts to original positions.
The string 29 may be automatically intermittently drawn and released. To this end a base 31 is clamped to the window sill 32 by means of set screws 33, and supports an electric motor 34, having a worm 35 on its shaft, meshing with'a worm gear 36, fixed to a shaft 35, carrying a Worm 38, meshing with a Worm wheel 39, fixed on a shaft 40, carrying an intermittent gear 41, meshing with a pinion 42, co-axially mounted to a drum 43, to which the bottom end of string 29 is fastened, and a portion wound thereon.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the bristles of the brush 19 are replaced by the rubber strips 44. Any other suitable material, such as kid, may be used.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts providing such changes do not depart from the spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. A window cleaning device comprising spaced vertical rods engaging at their upper ends the lower side of a top window frame and attached at their lower ends to the lower side of a bottom window frame, a wiper carrier slidably mounted on said rods, and a Wiper mounted on said carrier projecting cross inemberslidably mounted onsaid rods, 10 and a wiper mounted on said cross member projecting upwardly and above the latter upwardly and above the latter and adapted to enter the space between the window frames to enable said wiper to reach the top edge 7 of the pane; and adapted to enter the space between the 2.
