Another object of the invention is the provision of a handle of novel construction especially adapted for obtaining a concealed fastening.
The nature of the invention and its dis tinguishing features and advantages will appear when the following specification is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which F igure 1 is a side elevation showing a portion of'a metallic door with push and pull handles applied thereto in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig.1, on an enlarged scale, the push handle and connecting elements being shown in elevation.
F g. '4 IS an enlarged sectional View 1llus-vtrating more clearly the fastening between I two handles.
li"ig.,5 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 5-5. 1
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the connecting elements.
I Fig. 7 is a view illustrating av modified form of connecting element.
It is to be understood that the fastening means of the present invention may be diversely applied for attaching one, two or three handles, and that the illustrated embodiments are by way of example only. Furthermore while the fastening means is shown in connection with handles, it is to be understood that it maybe employed in conjunction with other elements in which a concealed fastening is desirable.
In the illustrated embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, a metallic door 10 is equipped with a pull handle 11 on one side of the doorand two pushhandles 12 on the opposite side of the dotif "cured in" pla'ce similar devices or means 13 which will include structural features on the handles as well as structural features on .t or i i the na'nnerpresently to be described. A.
tlireatl cl ext nsion 14' fof1- the handle 11 'eX- 7 tends through anjopening 15 1n one ofthe sections of the door, and connectedto the extension 14 1sconnect ng elemeiitj 16' having' a threaded bore 17' which" accommodates fltherextension 14. 'The. element 16 is provided with a groove 18 at one end thereof which provides a head19 and shoulders 20. The end of theelement 16 having the head and shoulders extends through an opening 21 in a section of the door, the said opening 21 being in axial alignment with the opening 15. The head and shoulders of the element 16 are disposed beyond the outer face of the door section. Each push handle 12 is of novel construction and consists of a grip section 22 and ends 23 disposed at an 'jThe2pull and push handles arc'se- [Lac l i device' lig con'sfists' and functions in i angle to the grip section 22. .Each end23 is provided with an opening 24, and a recess which is larger than the opening 24 to provide an internal shoulder 26. One end 23 of ahandle 12 accommodates the head and shoulders by virtue of the opening 24 and recess 25' therein in a manner in which the head 19 will bedisposed in the recess 25, and the shoulder 26 Will be disposed between the shoulders 20 as shown most clearly in Fig. 4, I A fastening element such as a screw 27 is screwed home in a threaded bore 28 in the end 23- so that the inner. end of the screw 27 will be disposed in the groove 18 between the shoulders 20, after which the screw is cut oil as indicated in Fig. 4. Thus one end of one push handle is eecured; The opposite end 23 being similarly constructed, is capable of accommodating the head 29 of a fastening element such as the screw 30. The screw 30 is applied to a section of the door with the head thereof spaced from the section of the door, as shown most clearly in Fig. 7. The
employment of the, screw in the manner stated presents ahead and shoulder construction similar to that presented bythe connecting element 17. Bythe employment of a second screw 27 connection of the handle end may be made to the screw 30 to complete the fastening.
In the illustrated embodiment three handies are shown attached to the door 10, one a pull handle 11 and two push handles 12. The fastening between the opposite ends of the handle 11 and ends respectively of the handles 12 are identical, and so are the fastenings of the opposite ends of the handles 12 to the door 10. If desired a single handle of the type of handle 12 may be secured in place in conjunction With two screws like the screw 30; the use of a connecting element such as the type of connecting element 16 being obviated.
It is to he understood that the invention is not restricted to the precise arrangement of parts shown and described, as details of construction may he modified and rearranged without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. The combination on a door, of a pull connecting; element having a threaded bore in one end thereof, a groove in the other end, shoulders and a head at said grooved end, the threaded bore adapted to receive a threaded extension on one of the handles, and the head adapted to be received in a recess in the other handle, the last mentioned handle having a portion engageable between said shoulders, and a member carried by said last mentioned handle and extending into said groove. i t
