Description

"Til-Patented Dec. 6, 1227.
'i "UNITED i STATES f HENRY TSCHEENIN Gr, OF FREEPOBT, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO ARCADE MANUFACTUR- v ING COMPANY, OF FREEPORT, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
MOP HOLDER.
Application filed Marcil 14, 1927. seriai No. 175,185.
My vinvention relates to mop holders of the type comprising a bar forming a handle portion provided at one end With relatively movjaw-closing position, with consequent releas-l ing of the swab, will be prevented.
-eferring tothe accompanying drawin s:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of t, e mop-head portion of a mop constructed 1 n accordance with my invention. Figure 2 is a section taken at the line 2 on Fig. 1 and viewed in the direction of the arrows; and igure 3, a broken view in elevation of a portion of .the structure shown in Fig. 1 and illustrating a modification of the retaining means for the lever. u
Referring to Figs. 1 and'2, the mop therein shown comprises a bar portion 4 as is common in mop constructions provided at one end with a jaw member 5 rigidly secured thereto and presenting a groove 6 extending crosswise of the bar 4. Cooperating with the jaw member 5 is a movable jaw 7 shownl as of general yoke `form, the cross member 8 of which is movable into and out of a position in which it extends into the groove 6, these jaws being provided for rigidly securing in place a swab (not shown) clamp-ed therebetween in accordance with common practice.
The ends 9 of the yoke 7 are pivotally convnected with a lever 10 between t-he ends of the latter, this lever being pivotally connected at a loop 11 thereon-with one end of a coil spring 12 surrounding the bar 4 and bearing at its other end against the jaw 5, the various parts being so constructed and arranged thatv when the lever 10 is rocked to the position shown in Fig. 1 the spring 12 will be compressed, thereby gripping the swab between the jaw members 5 and 8.
According to my improvement, the lever `that my improve-d lever-holding 10 is provided with means adapted to re- 50 leasably engage the bar 4 when 'the lever is in jaw-closing position and retain the leverv in this position against accidental ment. These means preferably comprise spring arms 13 arranged at-oppositeV lateral 55 edges of the lever 10 andformed'integrally therewith, thesev arms being bent into such a position that they will yield outwardly in swinging the lever l() to the position shown and embracingly clamp the bar 4. These. so arms may be conveniently formed in the process of stamping thelever 10 into form displacelfrom a sheet metal blank of any suitable material. The construction illustrated in Fig. 3jis 65 the same as that shown in-the preceding l iigures except that instead of the clamping arms 13 being stamped from thew blank from which the lever 1() is formed, they are formed from aseparate pieceoiil spring metal shaped v l to present a substantially U-sha'ped member 14 which is riveted, as represented at 15, orr otherwise suitably secured, tothe lever 10 .toextend transversely thereof and position'` its arms relative tothe bar 4 as in the'con- 7l'k struction shown in I+`igs1and 2 thereby` yieldingly embracing the` bar 4 when the lever 10 is in jaw-closingposition.
It will be understood from the foregoing` not only of simple and econoinicalconstriiction, but serve to eiiectuallyhold the lever,
10 against accidental displacement. A
`Vhile I have illustrated certain forms of construction constituting embodiments of my invention, I` do not wish to be'understood as intending to limit it thereto, as the same may be variously modified and altered without departing from the spirit or" my kinvention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure n. by Letters Patent, is
1. Almop-holder comprising', in combination, a bar, relatively-movable jaws on said bar, a pivoted lsheetemetal lever adapted to effect relative movement'of said jaws and iii jaw-closingposition extending adjacent said bar, and resilientv spaced arms integral with means are 80 closing position.
2. A mop-holder comprising,
tion, a bar,
relatively-movable in combinaaws on said bar, a pivoted lever stamped from sheet inetal and adapted to effect relative movement Vbracingly engage said bar of said jaws and in jaw-closing position extending adjacent said bar, and arms at opposite sides of said lever and adapted to ein-` and hold said lever in jaw-closing position, said lever and arms being formed as a oneiece structure.
