I One of the objects of this invention is to equlp hingedly mounted doors with means for closing the space between the bottom edge of thedoor and the floor when the door is closed so that the usual threshold may be dispensed with. v
further object is to'provide a. device of this character with; means whereby the device is lifted out of contact with or from the floor whenever the door is not in a closed position so as to facilitate and not in any way interfere with free opening and closing movements of the door. 7 Q
A special feature of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is substantially invisible from either side of the door irrespective of the position of the latter, especially from the line of vision of a person standing or sitting.
A novel phase of the invention residesin the manner of disposing the device with re- 7 spect to the bottom edge of the door with a view of rendering the device substantially invisible by reason of the fact'that the device is only coextensive with the area of the bottom edge of the door, and in some cases evenless than such coextensive relation as to size. It is immaterial whether the device of my invention is applied to an outside or an in-' side door as it will function with equal efficiency on either, and in the-following description 'Iwill designate each side of the door by a separate reference character to facilitate an explanation of the invention and without reference to the disposition ofthe door with respect to outside or inside.
An ordinary form of door is indicated at 1 and the letter A, designates one side thereof while the letter B designates the other side thereof. Said door is hinged, at 2, to swing in a door frame, the hinge side-being indicated at 3 and the jam side being indicated at 4. As the particular construction ofthe doorand frame are not essential to my invention, no further detail description thereof is necessary. s
The lower edge 5, of the door 1, is in free clearance fromthe floor 6 for a distance approximately equal to the height of the usual threshold, although'in some cases more or less clearance may be provided. However, it is an'advantage of my invention that the door of the usual stock size need not be modified by being shortened, in order that the device of my invention may be applied thereto. It is a feature of my invention to entirely dispense with the threshold, which omission alone, alfordsample clear ance for the installation of mydevice, and it is also to be noted that the floor adjacentto the door is not cut away or inlany main ner altered in order to accommodate my invention. .Th'us, a carpet or rug may extend beneath thedoor'without in any way interfering with the operation of my invention.
