ADJUSTABLE GUNSTOCK.
Application filed January 26, 1927. Serial No. 163,706.
The present invention relates to an adjustable gun stock and has for its prime object to provide for a device of this nature having several adjustments so that the same may be fitted to the person using the gun whereby greater accuracy and ease in shooting is obtained. Thus the improved stock may be lengthened and shortened and the cone may be raised and lowered to suit the size and taste of the individual.
Another very important object of the invention lies in the provision of a device of this nature which is comparatively simple in its construction, easy to adjust thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
iVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes the grip which has a socket recess 6 therein for re ceiving the stock of the gun with which the device is to be associated, said stock being held in place by a screw 7 or other fastening device. A pair of spaced parallel apertured ears 8 project from the end of the grip 5 to form a mortice or groove. Access is had to the head of the screw or like fastening element 7 through a pocket 9 leading from one end of the grip. The numeral 10 denotes the butt which at the smaller end merges into a tenon 11 receivable in the mortice formed by the ears 8. A pin 12 pierces the openings in the earS and the registering opening in the tenon 11 and is used to clamp the ears on the tenon so as to hold the grip 5 at different angles to the butt 10 to suit the individual using the device. A butt plate 14; has a threaded stem 15 extending therefrom and threadedly engaged therewith as at 16. A guide stem 17 extends therefrom and is threadedly engaged therewith as at 18. The stem 15 extends into a bore 18 provided in the butt while the stem 17 extends into a bore 19 provided in the socket. An openin 21 is provided in the butt for receiving a nut which is threaded on the stem 15. Thus by turning this nut the plate 14 may be moved away from or towards the butt for lengthening or shortening the butt. A comb plate 24 is hinged at its rear end as at 25 and has a stem 26 pivotally engaged therewith as at 27. An opening 28 is provided in the butt and receives a nut 29 threaded on the stem 26 which is receivable in the bore 30. Obviously, by turning the nut 29 the plate may be swung upwardly or downwardly as is clearly illustrated in Figure 1.
It is thought that the construction, utility, and advantages of this invent-ion will now be apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by way of example since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as de- I sirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. it will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is A device of the class described including a butt, a butt plate on the rear end of the butt, stems extending from the butt plate. said butt being provided with bores to re ceive the stems, and a transverse opening crossing one of the bores, a nut in the opening, said stem in one of the bores being threaded through the nut so that the nut may be turned for adjusting the plate.
