The bevel pinion 73 is carried on the end of the shaft 74 which is provided at its inner end with a slip joint and universal coupling 75 with which the shaft 7 4 is attached to the end of the armature shaft. The bevel pinion 72 is carried on the end of the shaft 76 and projects upwardly in the gear housing.V At the upper end the small pulley 77 is Iteyed to this shaft.

The polishing disc 78 of this attachment is supported at the lower end of the vertical shaft 7 9 being connected thereto by means of the spring coupling 80. The vertical shaft is mounted to rotate in the sleeve 81 which is supported from the gear housing 70 by means of the brace or arm 82. This brace is attached and clamped to the sleeve and gear housing by means of suitable clamping bolts which pass through the ends of the brace and engage suitable lugs provided on the sleeve and gear housing.

The upper end of the vertical shaft 79 has the larve pulley 83 keyed to the upper end thereo and the belt pulley and the pulley 77 and drives the polishing disck through the gearingl provided on the vacuum cleaner' housing.

To the lowerend of the vertical shaft 79 is also keyed or otherwise suitably fastened the flanged sleeve 85. Studs 86, 86 pass through openings in the flange of this sleeve and are threaded into the top of the polishing disc. This connection between the pol` ishing disc in conjunction with the spring coupling provides flexibility in the driving connection between the polishing disc and the shaft and allows the disc to adjust itself to the level of the floor at all times.

I claim:

1. In a. polishing attachment for a vacuum cleaner having an electric motor and a motor 84 passes over this v shaft, the combination bf a polishing disc: a drivingshaft connected osaid polishlng disc and drivenby said moto shaft, a supporting bearing for said drivin shaft, a supporting arm connecting said sup orting bearing with the vacuum cleaner, a brace attached to the vacuum cleaner and supporting said supporting arm 'and connecting means carrie by sai driving shaft and adapted to slidably engage said motor shaft.

2. In a polishing attachment for a vacuum cleaner having a motorshaft, the combination of a polishingy disc, means for mounting said disc on the front portion of the vacuum cleaner, an upwardly projecting shaft on said polishinggdisc, driving means for said shaft including a member connected with the motor shaft of the vacuuin cleaner by a sliding engagement therewith, a flexible connection between said vertical shaft and said polishing disc to keep said polishing, disc in constant contact with the oor irrespective of the position of the vac umn cleaner.

3. In a polishing attachment for a vacuum cleanery having a fan shaft for operating the fan of the vacuum cleaner, the combination of a horizontal bracket, means for clamping one end of said bracket to the vacuum cleaner, a horizontal drive shaft carried by said bracket, connecting means carried by said drive shaft and adapted to slidably engage said fan shaft, a vertical bearing supported on the other end of said horizontal bracket, a vertical shaft mounted to rotate in said vertical bearing and driven by said first named shaft, a universal joint on the lower end of said vertical shaft, and a polishing disc connected to said universal joint. i
