In carrying out my invention, I provide a boring device which I have indicated generally at A, a power mechanism at B for operating the boring device, and a pulling mechanism at C for simultaneously drawing the boringdevice and power mechanism in any desired direction. f
The Vboring device A consists oa casing 4 having an auger 5 movably disposed therein. A bit 6 is removably attached to the auger 5, and a journal 7, which serves as a centering point and a support for the auger when the device is in operation, is mounted upon the bit. a
The power mechanism, which is the means for operating the boring mechanism. consists ofa motor 8 operatively connected to a gear 9 which rotates a shaft 10 by means of a chain `11 connecting them. A pinion 12 is mounted upon the free end of the shaft 10 and is in mesh with a beveled gear 13. The bevel gear 13 is mounted upon a.

From theforegoing description of the various parts of `the device,l` the operation thereof may be readily understood. A ditchv 35 is dug at the side of the street 86 and the boring device is lowered in place, see Figure 1. The beam 31 is placed across the ditch 35' and made irm by clamps 37. The winch 30 is rigidly mounted acrossv the ditch 35 and to the rear of the boring device.
