What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by-Letters Patent is:
1. A 'last comprising a fore part, a heel part, 'a bonding member connecting said parts topermit their relative movement, and lookin@ means forholdinothe last in an expanded and a collapsed condition, said locking means embodying two members providing a. restricted passageway between them through which the bonding member is forced in moving from collapsed to expanded conl dition and vice versa, each of said members being arranged to engage the bonding mein# ber at two points, one for holding the last 'in an expanded condition and the other for holding the last in a collapsed condition.
' 2. Aglast comprising a fore-part, a heel part, a bonding member pivoted tothe forepart 'and also pivoted to the heel part, and a locking device forv cooperating with said bonding member at' two points between the two pivots and on opposite sides of a line through both pivots for holding the last collapsed 0r expanded.
3. Alast comprising a fore-part, a heel part, a bonding member having a substantially elliptical cross section pivoted to the heel part andto the fore part, and av lockingl device cooperating with one side of the bonding member at two 'points between the two pivots of the latter and on opposite sides of a line through bothvpivots of the bonding member so that the bonding member moves past the locking device when the last is collapsed or expanded and the locking devices hold the last in a condition. l
4. A last comprising a fore-part, a heel part7 cooperating bearings between said parts collapseldor an expanded permitting the relative swinging of the parts, a link pivotally connected to both parts, and a locking device to one side of the axis of swinging of the last parts cooperate ing with said link between the two pivots at two points on opposite sides of a line through both pivots of the bonding member to hold the last in an expanded or a collapsed condition.
'5. A last comprising a fore-part, a heel part, cooperating bearings carried by the fore-part and the heel part, permitting the relative swinging of-said parts, a t-ubular member having resilient walls and pivotally connected to both parts, and a locking device cooperating with said link between the two pivots to hold the last in expanded condition.
G. A last comprising a fore part, a heel part, a bonding member connecting said parts to permit their relative movement, said bonding member being resilient in a direction transversely of the longitudinal axis of the last, and a rigid locking device past which the bonding member moves when the last is collapsed or expanded to cause the bonding member to yield transversely.
7. A last comprising a fore part, a heel part, a bonding member connecting said parts and rigid in the direction of its length but resilient in a direction transversely of its length, and two rigid locking devices provid# ing a restricted passageway between them through which the bonding member is forced in moving to collapsed or 'expanded positions to cause the bonding member to yield transversely.
8. A last comprising a fore part, a heel part, a bonding member connecting said parts to permit relative movement between them, -safid bonding member being in the form of a split resilient tube, and a rigid locking device past which the bonding member moves when the last is expanded or coli lapsed to cause the tube to yield transversely.
9. A last comprising a. fore part, a heel part, a bonding member in the formof a split resilient tube for connectingsaid parts and two rigid locking devices providing a restricted passageway between them through which the bonding member moves when the lastis collapsed or expanded to cause the split. tube to yield transversely.
10. A last comprising a fore part formed with a convex vbearing surface at its rear end, a heel part formed with aI concave bea-ring surface at its forward end for cooperating with the convex bearing surface on the fore part, and a bonding member secured to the heel part and pivot-ally connected to the fore part, said bonding mem ber being rigid in the direction of its length and yielding in a direction transversely of the longitudinalaxis of the last, and a rigid locking device on the fore part eccentric to the swinging axis between they last parts for cooperating with the side of the bonding member as the latter moves on the pivot on the fore part to cause the bonding member to yield transversely.

A last comprising a. fore part formed with a convex bearing surface ati its rear end, a heel part formed with a concave bearing surface at its forward end for cooperating with the convex bearing surface on the fore part, and a bonding member secured to the heel partand pivotally connected to the fore part, said bonding member being rigid in the direction of its length and yielding in a direction transversely of the longitudinal axis of the last, and two rigid locking devices carried by the fore part and forming` a restricted passageway between them through which the bonding member moves upon the collapsing and expansion of the last to cause the bonding member to yield transversely.

A last comprising a tore part formed with a convex bearing surface at its rear end, a. heel part formed with a concave bearing surface at its forward end for cooperating with the convex bearing surface on the fore part, and a. bonding member secured to the heel part and pivotally connected to the fore part, and two locking devices carried by the fore part at a point eccentric to the axis of turning between the fore part and the heel part and forming a restricted passageway between them through which the bonding member passes in moving from collapsed to expanded position, and vice versa, said locking devices each engaging the bonding member at two points, one toy lock the last in collapsed condition and the other to lock the lastI in expanded condition.
13. A last comprising a fore part having its rear end provided with a cylindrical convex surface, a. heel part having its forward end provided with a cylindrical concave surface for cooperating with the convex surface of the fore part, a bonding member pivotally connected to the fore part and to the heel part and having its pivots when the last is expanded lying in a line which is below the center of the arc formed by the cooperating cylindrical bearing surfaces on the fore part and the heel partand when the last is collapsed lying above said center, and two locking devices carried by the fore part arranged eccentrically to the axis of turning between the fore part and the heel part and forming a restricted assageway between them through which tie bonding member moves upon the collapsing and the expansion of the last, each of said locking devices en gaging the bonding member at two points one to hold the last in an expanded condition and the other to hold the last in a collapsed condition.
14. A last comprising a fore part having its rear end provided with a cylindrical convex surface, a heel part having its forward end provided with a cylindrical concave surfacey for cooperating with the convex surface of the fore part, a bonding member pivotally connected to the fore part and to the heel part and having its pivots when the last is expanded lying in a. line which is below the center of the circle formed by the coo-peralting cylindrical bearing surfaces on the fore partand the heel part, and when the last is collapsed lying above said center, said bonding member being rigid in the direction of its length and yieldable transversely of its lengt-h, and a rigid locking device carried by the fore part at a point eccentric to the axis of turning between the forepart and the heel part and past which the bonding member moves upon the collapsing and the expansion of the last.
