RAIN cArcnER.
Application ledv Auggust 13,1926. Serial No. 129,996.
This invention relates to rain catchers. An object of the invention 1s to provide a devicewhich may be placed outdoors and which when not desired for use may be of constrnctionand combinations and arrangements of parts, which Will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed outk side elevation of Figl y frame are preferably-of metal, although of course l do not limit myself to the particular materials employed, f y
3 represents a second receptacle which is slightly larger than the receptacle l and is connected to the receptacle lby a hinge l so that the receptacle 3 be swung to position over the receptacle l and function as a cover, as indicated in-dot and dash lines in Figure 2. Vhen the receptacle 3 is over the receptacley l it will telescope on the latter a sufficient distance and fit with such o snugness as to exclude dirt and dust from the interior of thereceptacle.
o represents a brace arm or extensionfixed to the frame 2 and projecting` outwardlyy therefrom so as function as a support for the receptacle 3, as shown in full'` lines in Figure 2. This arm 5 at'its extremity has a finger 6 thereon adapted to receive a ring .7 onthe receptacle 3 and holds the latter against the possibility of accidental displacement.
The receptacle l has a drain outlet 8 and the receptacle 3 has a drain outlet 9. These outlets 8 and 9 are located, although not necc essarily, in adjacent corners of the receptacles. Y p
` l0 represents a drain pipe communicating with the outlet 8 and extending to any point of discharge. This outletpipe l() has a nipple ll thereon which is connected by a flexible hose l2 with nipple 13 communicating `with drain outlet 9. This hose l2vis of sufiicient length and flexibilityltoallow `the receptacle or cover 3 to be removed from one` f yposition to another and When the deviceis in operative position functions to carry the Water from Athe receptacle pipe 10. f
It Will be noted, particularly by reference to Figures 2 and 3, that thebottoms of the intoV drain yreceptacles and 3 have an inclination or taper in a direction toward the drain outlets so that'such rain as falls Within the receptacles Willdrain freely therefrom. f Various changes and alterationsrnight be made in the general form of the parts described without departing from the spirit of my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth butL y consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims. f
l claim: o y Vl. A device of the character' described, including two receptacles adapted to be positioned one over theV other when closed, and
means connected to the receptacles for draining rain therefrom. p i
2. A device of the character described, including a support, a receptacle on the supn port, a second receptacle'hingedly connected to the first-mentioned receptacle, a fixed drain connected to one receptacle, and a flexible drain connecting the other receptacle With ythe inst-mentioned` drain.y
- 3. An `apparatus of the character deico scribed, including a support, a fixed arm on the support, a receptacle secured to the support, a Second receptacle connected to the, first-mentioned receptacle and adapted when 'i open to rest upon the'arni, a. finger on the arm, a ring on the last-mentioned receptacle adapted to engage over the arm, said recep- CLIFFORD C.
