This. invention aims to provide an improved separable fastener.

Referringto the drawings, 1 have shown a separable fastener particularly though not exclusively useful for securing vehicle curtains to the; body of the, vehicle;
The stud, as illustrated, includes a casing 1 generally circular'in cross-section counter sunk into the body 2 of the vehlcle sothat only beyond the outer surface of the body. This casing is secured to the body by a. screw 4: p
which is non-rot tably secured to the casing substantially as. shown. The c'ontractible and expansible head and neck portion 5 of the stud is countersunk into the casing and formed in substantially the same manner as described in my copending application Serial No. 719.928, filed June 14, 1924. Within the casing I have assembled a reciprocable locking element 6 normally pressed by a spring 7 into engagement. with the reversely bent portions 8 of the stud to prevent contraction of the head of the stud as illustrated in Fig. 2.
The socket, as illustrated, is secured to a flexible curtain 9 and includes a tubular studengaging portion 10 having a reversely bent neck-engaging portion 11 at its free end. The socket also includes a front plate 12 and a press-button or unlocking member 13. The tubular portion 10 is located at the inner face of the curtain 9 and has a base 14: which presents a plurality of attaching prongs 16 ressed through the curtain and upset and clinched by the anvil portion 15 of the front plate, as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. The press-button 13 is assembled with the socket so as to be freely reciprocable in the tubular portion 11. One end 18 of the press-button is presented at an aperture in the front plate a hexagonal flange portion 3 pro iects so as to permit manual operation from the outside of the curtain while the other end 19 which is relatively small in diameter is presented at the free end of the tubular portion 10 to engage the locking element in the stud.

I I claim- 1. A separable fastener comprising, in combination, a stud member having a head and a neck portion, a cooperating socket presenting a portion for engagement with said neck to secure said stud and socket together, locking means carried by said stud for locking said stud and socket against accidental separation and lock displacing means carried by said socket for displacing said locking means to permit separation of the fastener parts, said loclrdisplacing means comprising a button portion at one end and a lock-engaging portion at the other by positively locking the stud with the end, said lock-engaging portion being adapted to make direct contact with said locking means.
2. A separable fastener comprising, in combination, a stud member including a plurality of resilient socket engaging portions, a socket presenting a non-resilient portion for engagement with the socket engaging portions of said stud, a locking member carried by said stud for engagement with said resilient portions to lock said stud and socket together and unlocking means carried by said socket for effecting unlocking of the stud and socket, said unlocking means comprising a button portion at one end and a reduced lock-engaging portion at the other end to engage said locking means and displace it from looking position when said button portion is pressed.

A separable fastener comprising, in combination, a stud member including a casing, a eontractible and expansible socket engaging head countersunk into said casing, a socket presenting a stud receiving portion for engagement with said head, a spring pressed locking member in said casing for engagement with said head to lock said stud and socket together and manually operable means carried by said socket for displacing said locking member to permit separation of the fastener.

A separable fastener comprising, in combination, a flush-type stud member including a casing countersunk into a rigid support, a socket engaging contractible and .expansible head and neck portion countersunk into said casing, a cooperating socket secured to a flexible support and presenting a rigid tubular portion for entrance into said casing to engage said stud, a locking element carried by said stud for locking said stud and socket together and an unlocking element carried by said socket for unlocking the stud. and socket to permit separation thereof.
5. A separable fastener comprising, in combination, a flush-type stud member including a casing countersunk into a rigid support, a socket engaging contractible and expansible head and neck portion countersunk into said casing, a cooperating socket secured to a flexible support and presenting a rigid tubular portion for entrance into said casing to engage the neck of the stud, a spring pressed axially shiftable' locking member located in the casing portion of said stud for engagementwith said stud to prevent contraction of the stud and lock said socket therewith and an axially movable press-button member carried by said socket for displacing said locking member.

A separable fastener comprising, in combination, a flush-type stud member in cluding a casing countersunk into a rigid support, a socket engaging contractible and expansible head and neck portion countersunk into said casing, a cooperating socket secured to a flexible support and presenting a rigid tubular portion presenting a reversely bent portion for entrance into said casing to engage. the neck. of the stud, a spring pressed axially shiftable locking member, located in the casing portion of said stud for engagement with said stud to prevent contraction of the studand lock said socket therewith and an axially movable press-button member carried by said socket for displacing said locking member.
