Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE,
JOHN E. SANDERS, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCAFFO LDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,771 dated June 22, 1875; application-filed April 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN E. SANDERS, of Indianapolis, county of Marion, State of Indiana, have invented an Improved Adjustable Bracket for scaffolds, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to construct an adjustable bracket formed of one piece of casting, with all the holes or lnortises cored out to receive the uprights, stays, and crosspieces of 'scantlings used to form a scaffold, and also to have a band of iron so arranged as to hook onto the casting, and into notches cut in the uprights, for the purpose of holding the bracket at any desired height.
Figure 1 represents a view of my adjustable brackets supporting the floor ot' the scat-told. Figs. 2 and 3 are side elevations, Fig. 4 is a front elevation, and Fig. 5 is a top View, of the same.
A represents the bracket, cast in one piece, with a hole cored therein from top to bottom to receive the uprights B. The bracket is also provided Witha projection, E, on the front side, which is also cored out to receive the tiebars J on each side of the bracket, and below the cored projection'E are two more projections, F F, each of which is cored out to receive the bars G G, which are at right angles to J. The band 0 is hooked under the projection E, and extends upward and backward, and hooks into notches D, that are cut in the uprights B, so as to adjust the bracket A up and down, and hold it secure at any point. The'bars J, G, and G are used to connect the uprights B together, and to hold the floorboards of the scaffolding.
To set up my improved scaffolding-bracket, take the uprights B B, and place the bracket A thereon, as shown in Fig. 1; then insert the bars J, G, and G, and adjust them to any height desired.
'The utility of this device will be readily appreciated by all users of scaffolding, especially fresco painters and others, where it is very difficult to erect them Without a great deal of dirt, dust, sawing, and hammering.
What I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
An adjustable bracket formed of one piece of casting, with cored receptacles for the uprights B, cross-ties G,'G, and J, constructed and operated substantially as specified.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' JOHN E. SANDERS. lVitnesses:
HORACE F. BROWN,
J. S. ROCKWELL.
