FRANK ROBBINS, OF OIL CITY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PHOTOGRAPHlC DARK-TRUNKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,765, dated June 22, 1875 application filed May 15, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK Remains, of
Oil City, in the county of Venango and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Iui proveni en tin Photogra 'diers Dark Tents and Trunks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my trunk, and Fig. 2 is a view of the same open and extended.
My invention relates to the apparatus used by photographers; and it consists in the novel construction of a traveling-trunk, as hereinaffer described, which, when desirable, is designed to serve as a darkroom for the development of pictures.
My trunk is constructed of the sections Aand A, hinged together in the usual manner at its rear. The section A is made narrow at its front and wide at its rear, while section A is widest at its front and narrow at its rear, so that when united the line of junction is diagonal, as shown on Fig. 1. The leading objects of this peculiar shape of the trunk-sections are, to provide convenient access to the interior when the trunk is on wheels, as is usual with traveling photographers apparatus, to aid in forming a dark roof when the dark room is being used, and to provide convenient walls for suspending yellow curtains. 13 represents a hood, constructed of dark cloth for its exterior and a lining of yellow. This hood, when on duty, is suspended on the wire frame 0, pivoted to section A, as shown on Fig. 2, which said frame is supported by the removable props e 0. The lower part of this hood is secured within section A, and it is provided with a slit or opening, D, through which the head and hands of the operator may be passed at will. D represents a yellow curtain stretched between the extended sections of the trunk when on duty, and provided with buttons n, by which it is or may be connected with the hood B. This yellow curtain serves to provide the necessary yellow lightfor photographic purposes. To ail in supporting the trunk-sections when separated, I have provided the jointed braces y, pivoted, respect ively, to the said sections.
It is obvious that my trunk is not only adapted to ordinary uses, but also for transporting chemicals required by photographers.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The trunk formed of the diagonal sections A and A, and provided with hood B, frame 0, and curtain l), substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the pres ence of two witnesses.
FRANK ROBBINS. \Vi tnesses:
F. W. Hays, J. 11. Former.
