Description

UNITED STATES fPrrrinvr- OFFICE.
HORACE L. DUNOKLEE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN cAMP-sToVEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,725, dated June 9.2, 1875 applicationled l March 31, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Hormon L. DUNCKLEE, of Boston, in the county ot' Suttolk and State ,ot' Massachusetts, have invented new and use.
ful Improvements in Camp-Stoves, ot' which the following is a specification:
Thisinvention relates to campstoves, and,
more particularly, it is designed for securing increased portab1l1ty and compactness in packing when not in use, and also for giving additional conveniences and appurtenances to the stove, thereby increasing its efficiency.
The invention consists ot a camp-stove hav- 4ing its tire-chamber made as ordinarily, of
` bottom or top ot' the stove, ot' being packed away within the tire-chamber of` the stove, and when so packed away be in position for stowing away within it, and within the rechamber about it, the various cooking utensils-such as a stew or frying pan, waterkettle, funnel, legs, Ste., accompanying the stoveand without interfering with the replacing ot' the top or bottom ot' the stove, as the ease may be, which had been removed for the purpose ot' placing the oven-chamber in the firevchamber ofthe stove. It also consists in the arrangement ot' the shelf-supports within the oven-chamber for ready attachment and detachment, as may be desired.
ln the accompanying platel ot' drawings, Illy-improvements in camp-stoves are illustrated, Figure l being a plan'view ot' the same equipped with lits oven-chamber and ready for use; Fig. 2, substantially a vertical section from front to rear of the stove, with an elevation ot' the interior of oven-chamber, which has been swung open on its hinges 5 Fig. 3, a vertical section along line x a', Fig. l Fig. 4, a Vertical section along line y y, Fig. 2 Fig. 5, a view showing improved fastening of a handle to a sauce or fry pan for convenience of attaching and detaching it. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the stove on a reduced scale from Fig.'l,iishowing the oven-chamber as placed in it, and in position for packing away the cooking utensils, &c.
In the drawings, A represents a camp stove, made ot' sheet metal, as ordinarily, and sup B sets over the top edge b ot the stove-chamf i ber, and is capableof ready attachment and V detachment. c, the oven-chamber.V This yovenchamber is made of sheet metalyas ordinarily, and is hung, by hinges c, to the rear side ot' the stove A, so that it can be swung open or closed, as may be necessary.- `This oven-` chamber O is made ot' the shape shown, and its length and height are such that, being detached from the stove, it can Abe received wit-hin the tire-chamber D otl the stove, and, restinglon the bottom thereof', have its inside or chamber E exposed for packing away therein and about it'with'in the tire-chamber D the various appurtenances ot the stove-- such as a stew-pan, kettle, funnel, legs, (Sto.- the whole then being covered by placing the detachable top plate B of the stove over the top edge b ot' the stove. F, a sheltl attached tothe front and top edge ot' the stove by inserting its arm lin the strap g of. the stove. rThis shelf is convenient for'setting a coeepot, Ste., in the use of the stove, and as applied is free to vbe attached or removed, as
may be desired. h, an gle-shaped strips, maklng the support for a shelt' or pan, Gr, in the oven -chamber O. These strips 71. are supported on buttons in, fastened to the insidel face of oven-chamber, and are free to be removed, so as to leave the oven-chamber the clearer for the stowing away of the cooking and other appurtenances, as before stated- H,'a stew or fry pan, and nits handle. The handle a hooks, by its hook end o, into the strap p ot' the pan H, and from the strap it can be readily released when desired to pack the pan away.
It is obvious the stove can be made of castiron, or the removable top be made of cast- :iron and the rest of sheet metal; but it is preferable to` `make it all of sheet metal, as it is lighter and easier of transportation; also,
`as many of the shelves F can be arranged upon the stove as is desirable.
Having now described my invention, what l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The Combination, with a camp-stove having a removable top or bottom, of an oven hinged to the exterior of the stove, and constructed to have a swinging motion for removing or detaohing it, and adapted to be arranged, after removal, Within the said stove, as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, in a camp-stove provided With the oven C, having the anges m, of' the removable flanges h, for supporting` the shelf or pan G, substantially as described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 20th day of March, A. D. 1875.
HORACE L. DUNCKLEE.
