ATTORNEYQ 45 grid formin cnmns c. srnnnn, or nn'rnorr, moaning REFRIGERATION.
' a lication filed January 1o, 1927. Serial na eaasv.
My invention relates to mechanical refrigeration, and particularly to containers for.
freezingsubstances underthe action of the refrigerant expansion apparatus of mechani- 5 cal'refr'igeration units, and the principal-ob- 'ect of m 'inventionis to provide a new and improve container of this type. In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part of this application I .10 have shown, for purposes of illustration, certain forms which my invention may assume. In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a top 'plan'view of one em -bodiment my invention may assume. Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,.while Figure- 3 is a cross section similar to Figure 2 showing another embodiment which my invention may assume.
The embodiment of my invention shown in Figures. 1: and 2 comprises a tray 11 for the freezing ofsubstancesunder the action of domestic mechanical refrigerating mechanism, provided of smaller spaces to subdivide the frozen substances into a plurality of cubes of a size suitable for table use. 7 The grid 12 consists of a plurality of lon- I gitudinal plates 13 and a plurality of transverse plates 14 having cooperating notches -15 and 16 at their points of intersection.
Each of the notches 15 ofthe transverse plates 14 has at its closed'end an'angularly 5 directed extension 17 While each of the notches 16 of the longitudinal plates 13 is rovided with a tongue 18 adapted to be cut away from the plane of the late 13 to seat withm one of the angularly 1rec,t ed ex-' 40 tensions 17 of the notches 15 in the plates 14 as the plates 13 and 14 are assembled, whereby the transverse plates 14 and longitudinal plates 13 will be firmly locked together when the plates 13 and 14 have been assembled 1n relation.
The embo iment of my invention shown in Figure 3 retains the longitudinal plates 13 and transverse plates 14 but provides the ends of the notches 15 in the plates 14 with curved ofl'set portions 19 while thenotches 16 of the plates 13 are provided with'tongues with a grid 12 to subdivide .2 the spacevn'thin the tray ll'into a plurality 20 adapted to interlock with these curved .ofiset portions 19: i
From the above disclosure it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that I have rovided new and improved means forfreez mg substances under the action'of the refrigerating apparatus of domestic mechanical refrigeration mechanism, and accordingly that I have accomplished at least the principal object ofmy invention. v It will also be obvious to those skilled in the art that theparticular embodiment of my invention herein shown and described may be v'ariousl changed and modified with out departing rom the spirit of my invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and it therefore will be understood that the disclosure herein is illustrative only and that my invention is not limited thereto.-
Iclaim: r
1. For use in connection with mechanical refrigeration refrigerant ex ansion apparatus, and for the freezin o substa'ncesunder the action of said refrigerant expansion apparatus; a container formed to be received in and supported b said refrigerant expansion apparatus, an a grid for dividing the space within said; container into a plurality of smaller spaces, comprising at least two sets of intersecting plates havingcoope'rating notches at their points of intersection to permit assembly of said sets into said grid,
each of said sets comprising at least one' plate, and means to hold said 'plates assembled comprlsing oflset extensions at the closed ends of one notch of each pair of oooperating notches, and tongues projecting" into the closed ends of each cooperating notch deformable into said extensions upon assembly of said plates into said grid to thereafter'hold said plates so assembled.
2. For use in connection with mechanical refrigeration refrigerant expansion apparatus, and for the freezing of substances under the action of said refrigerant expansion apparatus; a container formed to be received in and supported by said refrigerant expansion apparatus, and a grid for dividingthe space within said container into a plurality of smaller spaces, comprising at least two sets of intersecting plates having cooperating notches at their points of intersection to permit assembly of said sets into said grid, each of said sets comprising at least one plate, and said plates of one of said sets intersecting said plates of the other of said sets substantially at right angles, and means to hold said plates assembled comprising offset extensions at the closed ends of one notch of each pair of cooperating notches, and tongues grid to thereafter hold projecting into the closed ends of each 00- .1
operating notch deformable into said extenslons upon assembly of said plates into said said plates sonassembled.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
CHARLES C. SPREEN.
