ALFRED FALLOT, OF PLAUEN, GERMANY; HARRY PRIESTER EXECUTOR OF SAID f ALFRED EALLO'J?,l DECEASED.
' i l SHEET-DELIVERING DEVICE FOR PRINTING PRESSES.`
Application Ied February 29, 1924, Serial This invention relates to a sheet delivering device for sheet printing presses. In the machines of known type the sheet is taken ranged on an endless chain and conveyed to the delivering pile.,V The grippers open as soon as the sheet is above the delivering pile so that the sheet drops on the pile, the sheet possessing a speed in the direction in which the gripper is moving. Thisspeed is comparatively great as the speed of the gripper depends on the-revolving speed' of the cylinder. The sheets are therefore not delivered uniformly and they strike against the stops with a certain shock so that, especially in'thin sheets, the edge'of the' sheet is frequently damaged. According to the invention the sheet is delivered not in the direction in which the gripper chain moves, but in the opposite direction. With this object' in view the sheet is gripped by the .mechamcal grippers, sucking cups `or the like at the rear end, the grippers being mounted on a carriage which up tothe moment at which the gripper release moves at the same. speed or at a lower speed than the sheet mthe direction of'movement of the gripper where-` upon the direction'of movement of the slide is reversed' and the sheet is delivered on the pile by the slide grippers. A blow pipe is preferably arranged above the vsheet blow vupon the front part ofthe sheet previous to the opening-of the chain grippers, .sald blow pipe oscillatingafter xthe chain grlpper has opened, so that the air ycurrent act's'then upon -the rear yend of the sheet. With the improved device it is possible to regulate .the speed of the delivering movementat will; and it uwill be generally considerably slower than with the knowndevices. The front edge of the sheetcomes rst, in contact with the pile, then the rmiddle of the sheet and finally the rear edge of the same, lso that a steady and uniform delivering of the sheets is ensured. l
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed `description taken in connection `with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, with the understanding that while on the drawings tw-o embodiments of the invention are shown, the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings, but may be em- No. 696,001, and in Germany Maren 7,- 192s.
bodied inany manner which does not consti-- tute a material departure from the salient features of the invention.y
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a' side elevation of the sheet delivermg device.
Fig. 2 shows a slightly'modiied form of construction.
Fig. .3 shows a 'generic constructive detail in cross section.
The sheet a is taken from the printing cylinder b by the'gripper c arranged ony the conveyer chain d and conveyed to the delivering pile e. The sheet a passes between the lateral feeding rollers f which maintain it stretched sol that the sheet is conveyed to the pile in a uniformly' stretched position. Below the sprocket-wheel g which is nearest to the printing cylinder b a carriage t is arrangedwhich carries .a suction `c with a gripperformed by sucker cups i. When the rear end of the sheetl a has come out from between the feeding rollers f the -sheet comes in'contact with the sucker cups lwhich are put into communication with a partial vacuumv and the carriage h moves inthe direction of the sheet a under the inluence of -the reciprocating toothed seg-- ment l which is controlled by an eccentric m. As soon as the chain gripper c has 7travelled beyond the end of the `delivering pile e a roller lever n connected with the gripper strikes against a curved guide bar o whereby the gripper is opened and releases the sheet a. At the same time the `suction pipe k is made to communicate with a space 1n which vacuum exists so that the rear end of the sheet a is sucked upon the sucker.
forward movement'of the sheet the blow i P1Pe to thg position shown in iull 1ines,a nd', -as soon as the sheet has been releasedjb'y the grippers c, it blows upon the front end of the sheet which is consequently vpressed on in e reversed direction th'e blow pipe g oscillatesbackward into the posit1on indthe' ile. During the .'movementof the sheet has executed an' oscillating movement. l n
v'cated in dotted lines and blows, as soon as a `the sheet has been released by the sucker `inFig. 3. When the lever cups z', upon the rear end of the sheet.v The air under pressure which acts upon the sheet is prefera ly heated so that the ink on the sheet is dried; Means for rocking thejblow pipe g are shown in Figure 3 but it is to be understood that the said means form no' part of the present invention andthat any rconvenient mechanism may beemplofed for the purpose in question. The curve guide bar o is adjustably mounted on the frame r, as shown in Fig. 3,so that the sheet delivering device may be used for sheets of differentlengths. The eccentric m, which controls the. movement of the toothed segment l, is adapted to be adjusted on a scale in accordance with the height of the sheet.
' In order to permit the printer vto pull t. The sheet t en drops upon a support 'uso that it may be removed by hand. The
lever s is connected with a device for shut the sucker cups ting off the vacuum so that whenthe curved 'i do not suck on the sheet a guide bar o has been removed.
Instead of the grippers on carriage h being composfed of the suction ipe lc, any ot er element may be provided or gripping 'the rear edgre a mechanica gripper o mounted on the carof thesheet, as for lnstance,`

' I claim 1. In a sheet delivering device for print- This arrangement is shown in ing presses, gripper elements conveying the sheets from the printing cylinder to a second group of gripperelements which moves in the direction of the conveying movement,
grips the sheet and reverses its direction of movement after the sheet has been released by the first mentioned conveying elements, a blowing device which executes an oscillating movement ina forward direction during the'forward movement of the sheet and a backward oscillation during the rearward movement of the sheet, the air blowingat first upon the front part and afterward upon the rear end of the sheet.
2. Ina sheetdelivering device for print ino' shets from the printing cylinder to a second groupof gripper elements whichmoves in the direction of the conveying movement,
grips the sheet and reverses its direction of movement after the sheet has been released by the first mentioned conveying elements, a blowing device which executes an oscillating movement in 'a forward direction durin the forward movement of the sheet and a ackward oscillation during the rearward movement of the sheet, the air lng device serves at the same time as a drilng device.
