Description

-'A. C. CROCKER CHAIN AND PLUG HOLDER FOR BATHTUBS AND BASINS Filed Dec. 14 1926 Inventor vW/hm 67 6700K Patented Oct. 18, 1927.
ALFREDO. CROCKER, F CI'IAGRIN FALLS, OHIO.
CHAIN AND PLUG- HOLDER FOB BATHTUBS AND 'BASINS. Y
' Application filed December 14, 1928. Serial 110.154,?43.
This inventionrelates generally to bath tubs and basins and has more particular reference to a means whereby the chain and plug of a bath tub or basin may be properly supported when the plug is not in use, and this without requiring the hanging of the chain over the faucet or over side of the tub and the basin which interferes with the proper operation of the faucet or results in the scratching or other marring of the porcelainsurface of the tub or basin.
An important object of the invention is to provide a holder of this character that may bereadily associated with the usual 1 overflow plates of bath tubs or basins without in any manner whatever altering the overflow: plates or the means provided for se' nature of the invention is better understood,
the same comprising the novel form, combination, and arrangementof parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of the front side of a bath tub or basin equipped with a plug and chain holder constructed in accordance with the present invention. the same being shown as actually supporting the chain and plug.
Figure 2 is a vertical section thereof, and
Figure 3 is a perspective of the holder, per
Now having particular reference to the drawing, 5 indicates a bathtub orbasin having at its front wall and adjacent its top side the usual overflow opening 6 in front of which is arranged the usual overflow plate 7 having openings 8 therein. Such overflow plates 7 are usually secured in positionupon said opening 6 by threaded bolt 9 secured at its inner end within a web at the inlet end of the overflow drain pipe 10 and upon the outer end of which is threaded an ornamental thumb nut 7 that has an opening in its um suspended position.
der side to permit of the attachment of the plug carrying chain 11 to a projecting pin l2 upon theouter endof said threaded bolt 5).
My invention per se consistsof a pair of relatively small metallic plates 13-13 that are welded or otherwise joined together and formed centrally with registering openings 14 whereby the same may be supported upon the projecting end ofthe bolt 9 and said thumb nut 10 is removed therefrom. Depending froin the periphery of these plates l3l3 are slightly outward bent spring tongues 1515 that are separated throughout their major portion of the length, while the lower ends have contact with each other for normally closing the lower end of the space between said tongues. The extreme lower ends of-the tongues, may be, and pref- V erably are. turned upon themselves to provide rounded abnt1nents'1616 to facilitate the easy disposition of one of the links of the chain 11 therebetween when it is desired to supportsaid chain as well as the plug 11 above the bottom wall of the tub or basin.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, efiicient chain and plug holder for bath tubs, basins, and the like that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, and even though I have shown and described this holder as consisting of a certain detail structure it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein without eifecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is V 1. In combination with a chain having a stopper secured on its lower end. and a bolt to which the other end of the chain is fastened, of means supported on the bolt for engagement with the links of the chain to hold the stopper carrying end thereof in a 2. In combination with a chain having a stopper secured on its lower end, and a bolt to which the other end of the chain is fastened, of means supported on the bolt for engagement with the links of the chain to hold the stopper carrying end thereof in a suspended position, said means comprising a spring clasp including a body portion formed with an opening to receive the bolt,
3. pair of spring arms depending from the 119 body portion. said arms being curved outwardly and then inwardly, the free ends of the arms being disposed in contacting relation to provide a pair of opposed jaws through which the links of the chain may be passed.
3. In combination with a chain having a stopper secured on its lower end, and a boltto which the other end of the chain is lastened, of means supported on the bolt for engagement with the links of the chain to hold the stopper carrying end thereof in a suspended posit-ion, said means comprising a spring clasp including a body portion formed with an opening to receive the bolt,
a pair of spring arms depending from the body portion, said arms being curved outwardly and then inwardly, the free ends of the arms being disposed in contacting" relation to provide a pair of opposed jaws through which the links of the chain may be passed, the outer free ends of the spring arms being bent back upon themselves to provide guide means for the links of the chain which pass between the jaws. v
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ALFRED C. CROCKER.
