TYPE HANGER.
Application led .Tune 4, 1926. Serial No. 1133753.`
This invention relates to improvements in type hangers.
Multigraphing type is put up in standard tubes each containing a plurality of like letters of the alphabet, like numerals or like signs and the tubes have, by custom, been promiscuously placed in boxes which practice has led to considerable waste of time by multigraphing type setters finding the type desired.
It is therefore the object of this invention to provide type hangers which may be placed in a convenient position toi-.multigraphing type setters and upon which the standard tubes containing mult-igraphing type may be hung systematically according to alphabet, numerals or signs.
It is also an object of this invention to provide for the hanger a movable guard for preventingthe accidental removal of the tubes when the type supported by the hanger are not in use.
In the drawings: I
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of an embodiment ot the type hanger showing tubes suspended therefrom.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation with portions shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of a standard tube for multigraphing type.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the device shown in Fig. 3. l
Fig. 5 is a `fragmentary top plan view ot a modified form of type hanger. y
Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on 6 6 of Fig. 5.
Like parts are identiiied by the same reference characters throughout the several views.
As shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the standard tube 1 which carries the multigraphing type (not shown) comprises a metal sheet bent to form two arcuate portions 2 and 3 connected by a concave portion et and spaced at the line 5 to provide a slot longitudinally of the tube. The central portion 4 is` struck out at each end to form inturned tongues 6 and 'l'. These tongues retain the type `9 (see Fig. 2) within the tube, such type being slotted at 10 upon each side as shown in Fig. 2 to receive the margins 11 and 12 of the tube. No invention is claimed in these tubes, but are described merely to indicate their structure as received by a multigraph user. When the tube 1 is hung upon the type hanger disclosed herein, one of the .or other object 17.
tongues 6 and 7 is removed to providean unobstructed slot 13 atono end of such tube.
The type hanger disclosed herein com-` prises a board 14 having eye screws 15 adapted to receive hooks 16 secured to a wall Upon theiace of the board is secured a plurality of hook rods 18 disposed horizontally of such board. Each oit these hooks rods 18 .is designated either by a sign 19, a letter 2O of the alphabet or a numeral 21.
IVhen one o't` the tongues 6 or 7 has been removed the tube 1 may be hung on the hook rod 18 by inserting the end of such hook through slot 13 in such tubeand passing the body of the hook between the margins of slot 5 in the tube. A plurality of tubes may be hung upon each hook and as will be understood, eachv tube will contain a plurality of similar characters. Thus those tubes containing the same characters will be hung upon a hook designated by a like character.
While I have shown but one embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that I do not confine myself to this one form as other forms may obviously be made without departing from the spirit of this invention.
Upon the board 14 may also beplaced a card or plate 22 with the nameot the particular class of type found upon such hanger. Other hangers may be used for other particular classes of type.
In the modiied form shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the hanger proper is similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 but is provided with a guard 25 U-shaped in plan and having its ends 26 each pivotally connected by a bolt 27 to a bracket 28 secured to the board 14. Each end 26 of the guard'25 is provided with a stop portion 29 which co-acting with a correspondingv bracket 28 sup-ports the guard in a horizontal position as shown in Fig. 6. Above the stop portion 29 the guard is provided with a curved surface 30 to permit the guard to be moved about its pivot to the vertical position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 6. In the horizontal position of the guard its relation to the rods 18 is such that tubes supported by the latter will be prevented Vfrom accidentally slipping from theV rods when the hanger is being transported or otherwise handled. However, when the guard 25 is moved to the vertical position shown in Fig. 6 the Arods 18 are unguarded and a type setter acter, said-characters being arranged in sequence, andtubesfejach having a slot at one end receiving one ofV said rods, said tubes each containing a `plurality of like' character type individually removable from said tubes, the rods supporting said tubes each being designated by a character' similar tothecharacter type in the tube supported z bysaid rodl 2.
