* PAPER TOWEL Filed July 16 1920 Patented oer. 11, 1927;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AEVID ER, 01? PORTLAND, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO BROWN COMPANY, 01! PORTLAND,
. MAINE, A CORPORATION OF MAINE.
renn n rowan.
Application filed July 16,
' 5 towels when in package form.
The principal object of the invention consists in folding and interfolding the towels so that a plurality of towels may be placed in a cabinet and one towel withdrawn at a time. I
A further object consists in folding the individual towels in such a manner that there are a multi licity offolds, intermediate the ends, and e end flaps extend in opposite directions.
.Another object resides in foldingthe towel so that the end flaps will be of less width than the remaining folded ortions in order 7 that the towels may be easi y assembled and 2e interfolded. 1
With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel details 01 construction and arrangement of arts which will! be more clearly understoo from the following specification andv drawings, in
which r Figure 1 is a-top' plan. 7
Figure 2 is an end view of a package of towe Figure 3 is an enlarged end view showing the manner of interfo ding the towels.
- In the drawings, 1 indicates a paper towel havin a multi hcity of folds 2 intermediate its en s, said olds forming end flaps Sand 4 ofless width than the remaining folded ortions of the towel. 'As shown, the end aps extend in opposite directions, and
while various numbers of folds ma be made,
I find that four folds very nice y answer 40 the purposeand form-a towel of convenient In use, a number of towels will beassembled into p e form so that they may be readily inser into a dispensing cabinet I for withdrawin one-at a time. When assembled theen flaps 8 land 4, of adjacent towels, will interfold so that as one towel is withdrawn from the cabinet it will bring the flap of the next towel into proper position to be grasped.
I lay. iparticular advanta e upon having the en aps'of less width an the remaining folded portions, and in havin them extending in opposite dlrections. y having flaps extending in opposite directions no 1920. Serial No. 396,784. A
matter in, what position the towels might be, they may be easily assembled and interfolded. By having the end, flaps of less width than the remaining ortions, the end flaps may be easily locate for assembling into package form andthe end fla of one towel easily directed into interfoldiad position with the flap of another towel. At the same time the narrower end flaps will allow for the interfolding of towels in such a manher that straight vertical edges will be provided and there will be no bulging or un-.. evenness at the point of interfolding. The end flaps may be easily drawn through the openings in the dispensing cabinet, while the wider portions will be supported on the bottom of the cabinet.
Towels, as above described, may be used with various forms of dispensing cabinets, I having a discharge opening at the bottom, sides or top and while I have described the preferred orm of my invention, it will be understood that such changes may be made as will fall. within the scope of the appended claims.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A packa eof paper towels comprising a plurality o towels of uniform size and shape, each of said towels having a multiplicity of folds intermediate its ends, the end flaps of each towel extending in opposite directions and-of less width than the re maim'ng portions, said end flaps extending in opposite directions and being of equal width allowing inter-folding of adjacent towels no s matter what faces of the towels may be placed togethe and being of less width than r the remaining folded tpigrtions allowing easy 9 guiding and interfol g "of the endflaps of ad'acent towels.
2. package of paper towels comprisin a plurality o towels of uniform size an sha each-of said towels having a multi- 0 plicity of folds intermediate its ends, the end flaps of each-towel being of less width than the remaining folded portions and the end fiapsof adjoining towels interlocking, 7 substantially as and for the purpose de- In testimony whereof I' hereunto aflix my signature.
