The cash drawer type of manifolding device is becoming widely used because of the convenience of associating together the issuing of a sales slip by the same clerk who makes change or places money in the cash drawer. The lenforcement of a feed of paper through the manifolder every time the drawer is opened, gis also an excellent check on the transactions made during any period of operation.
Bystorin up energy during the closing of the cash drawer which energy is used for the operation of paper feed devices, the number of operations necessary in completing any one transaction are cut down over machines of which I have knowledge, and in a properly safeguarded construction insure the iuance of a slip every time the drawer is operated since no exposed part is necessarily available to the operator for controlling the paper feed. While I desire to include in my invention any way of using the cash drawer to loperate the paper feed, it is one of my special objects in the preferred construction illustrated herein, to use the cash drawer to,set a spring, and then to release the spring for seady and controlled operationfof a paper Another special object of my invention is to provide for an operating button or the like, which when depressed will 'release'the` cash drawer, and paper feed device, and in which the maintenance of the button in closed position will not permit the operator to grasp the paperin his handand withdraw more thanthe amount regularly fed by the feeding mechanism.

fReferring to the special form of mechanism shown, the device has a -cabinet 1,
within which is supported in any desired manner a cash drawer 2. This drawer has a spiral spring 3 thereon which engages a cup 4 on the base of the cabinet, this device serving to project the drawer suddenly when the latch therefor is released.

Mounted to slide on the spaced rods is a Y plate 19 having sleeves 20 mounted over the rod being cut with rack teeth 23, and carrying at its forward end a disk 24 which lies in the dash pot where it acts like a piston.
The plate 19 has a depending tongue 25 which lles in a position to be engaged by the back wall of the cash drawer.' thus when the cash drawer is pushed in, the plate will be moved inwardly, extending the long springs. Then when the drawer is released the plate will be pulled forwardly, being retarded by the dash pot.
The rack 23 will engage a gear 23a on the shaft 14, which gear is loose thereon and drives the shaft by means of a pawl 25 enaging the ratchet 26, that is fast on the s aft. This insures a driving of the shaft 14 in one direction only, which will so rotate the chain sprocketl13 thereon as to feed the paper out of the machine.
To control the amount of paper fed at each operation, I lix u on the feed shaft a cam disk 27, they nose o which contacts with -the end of a centrally pivoted lever 28. This lever has a stud 29 on it, and is held a ainst the cam by a spring 30. The stud will e engaged by another lever, 31, severing as a latch and having a notch 32 for engaging the stud. This lever springs up to engage Vthe said stud by force of the springI 33, and
is tripped to release the stud by means of a pin 34 on the cam.
The devices for releasing the drawer and for tripping the latch lever for the feed shaft, are shown as formed of a long bar 40 held loosely in brackets 41"along` the side of the machine. The inner end of this bar is cou led by means of a link 42, with a cross s aft 43. The shaft 43 carries a hook 44, which engages the rear end of the j drawer. -If desired a spring 45 may be used with this hook, and also a spring 46 is coupled to the long bar, which spring acts in the same direction.l
On the lon bar is a sloping tooth 47, which when t e bar is pushed in, as by a contact plunger 48, will move the end of the latch lever over until it releases the cm on the feed shaft by riding out from under the nose thereon, and being held out by the additional latch 1ever.`
This release of the feed will take place, preferabl just pribr to complete release of the cash wer, with the result that any release of the cash drawer must be accompanied by a feeding of the paper.
The maintenance of the plunger 48 'in its inward position will not serve to prevent the feed shaft from being stopped by the cam and lever. Thus the feed shaft will be revolved by the rack being pulled slowly forward and thereby operating the sprocket chain. As soon as a partial movement of the feed shaft has taken place the latch lever will be released by the pin on the cam knocking up the additional latch piece. The latch lever will then follow the cam under the force of its spring. The slidingl bar that operates the trip is free to pass under the end of the latch lever, since it is loosely mounted and can tilt in its mounting brackets.
It is not desired, because of a mention of but a single set of mechanisms to operate in the manner desribed of energizing the feed from the manually operated movement of the cash drawer, to limit my invention to this particular means alone, since I desire to cover in this invention any form of mechanism embodyin the principles 'of the devices described a ove.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a manifolding device including` a cash drawer, a cabinet, cash drawer, and paper feeding mechanism a latch for the paper feeding mechanism releasing it for definite operations at each operation of the latch, and a latch for the cash drawer, common means for 4operating said latches, and means for actuating the feeding mechanism by the 0movementof the cash drawer.
2. In a manifolding device including a cash drawer, a cabinet, cash drawer, and paper feeding mechanism, a latch for the e nite o rations at each o eration of the latch, an a latch for the cas drawer, common@ means for operatin said latches, and means for actuating the ffeedin mechanism by the movement of the cash rawer, said means including a spring set under tension by the inward or closing movement of the cash drawer.

In a device of the character described, the combination of a paper feeding device, a cash drawer and a cabinet therefor, a movable rack having driving connection with the paper feeding device, means on the rack lying in the path of the cash drawer, spring means setting the rack under pressure when the drawer is moved inwardly to closing position, a latch for the drawer, and a stop for the feeding mechanism releasing it for definite operations at each operation of the latch, and means for releasing said latch and stop, said means bein adapted to first release the paper feed and t en release the cash drawer 6.
