1644,217 Oct. '49 v w. B.- WREFORD- !v SPORT OVERSHOE I Filed Dec. 25, 1926 Patented Oct., 4, 1927.

Application filed December 23, 1926.
The insulating properties of ordinary paper are Well known and my invention aims to utilize paper or a like material in the. formation of a boot or overshoe which may be worn when sitting or standing outdoors to protect feet against extreme cold. For instance, when witnessing a football game or other outdoor sport, particularly in a concrete stadium, the feet are subjected to the cold surface of the concrete and- Currents of air that pass along the seats and aisles.
My boots or overshoes are an inexpensive article that may be used and then discarded. When worn the trousers may be gathered around the limb and the lower ends of the trousers held snugly by the upper of the overshoe, so that air cannot enter the legs of .the trousers.
i y overshoe or boot is also constructed so that it may be folded. readily carried, and in some instances used as an advertising medium.
The construction entering into the paper overshoe or boot will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will'now be had to the drawin wherein Figure l is a perspective View of the overshoe or boot; i
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same collapsed, and
Big. 3 is an edge View of the same.
To put my nvention into practice, I use durable, impervious and somewhat tough paper which may be cut to provide Shoe blanks adapted to be folded along certain ?Lines with edges connected to form an inciosure having somewhat the configuration of a boot or high upper overshoe. !The shoe blank is a circular piece of paper forming anupper portion l,`a toe portion 2, a fiat sole 3, a tip portion and a heel portion 5., When in such form there may be a rear seam 6 with other seams at the sole 3 and it is by virtue of the tip andheel portions 4 and -5- respectively that the sole portion of the overshoe may be folded, on the dash line 7,'
Serial No. 156308.
so that the overshoe may be collapsed into fiat form and otherwise folded if desired.
The tip and the heel portions 4 and 5 are substantially triangular with the sole 3 substantially rectangular. These pa'ts cooperate in supporting; the upper portion 1 so that the toe portion 2 is substantially trangular in cross section with a ridge 8 and the seam (i denoting lines on which the paper overshoe or boot may be collapsed.
The upper portion 1, when extendcd, is somewhat sm-ooth and funnel shaped and of sufficient size to permit of a shoe being easily and quickly placed in the overshoe and a trouser leg gathered at its lower end and placed in the upper portion 1. l
In order that the upper portion l may be fitted about the lower end of a trouser leg, to exclude air, a draw string, cord or the like, designated 10, is threadcd 01' laced in apertures 9 circumferentially arranged adjacent the upper edge of the upper 1, with the ends of the string or cord at the front of the up er so that a wearer can easily draw the str mg or cord and tie the same.
bviously the boot or overshoe may be made with the upper 1 of various heights, lower for a. man and higher for a woman. The draw string may be dispensed With, the paper made waterproof, and either side of the upper used for advertisement purposes.
I do not care to confine my invention to the particular formation of a blank from which the overshoe or boot is made, nor to any other details other than may be defined in the appended claim..
l/Vhat I claim is A paper overshoe comprsing an upper, a toe portion, a flat sole and tip and heel portions, said overshoe being formed from a blank shaped and edges connected so as to provide a rear seam and a front ridge, and a .draw. string in the upper adjacent its upper edge.
In testimony whereof I afi ix my signature.
WILLIAM B. WREFORD.
