This invention relates to' oil tanks generally, more particularly to an attachment therefor for preventing explosions from accumulating gases or vapors within the tank, and is an improvement upon the means for the purpose aforesaid as disclosed in Letters Patent No. 1,311,753, granted to me July 29, 1919, and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, means communicating with the outtake pipe of the tank for relieving the latter from gases or vapors generated therein, while the oil is stored in the tank or when filling and emptying the tank or caused from any other source thereby reducing the possibility of explosions within the tank to a minimum, and further for condensing such gases or vapors exteriorly of the tank as well as for collecting the condensates.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter referred to, an attachment for the purpose set forth, which is comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, readily, installed with respect to one or a plurality of tanks, automatic in its action, and comparatively inexpensive to set With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to, which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
The drawing illustrates in elevation, an oil tank showing the adaptation therewith of an attachment in accordance with this invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail 1 denotes an oil tank, which may be of any suitable form, but preferably is that disclosed by the aforesaid mentioned Letters Patent, and 2 indicates a suitable inlet pipe or intake which opens into the tank 1 at the hotline 5 consisting of a vertically disposed branch 6 which depends from the T-couling 4 below the bottom of the tank, ranch-es 7, 8, 9 and 10 which extend at right angles with respect to the lower end of thebranch 6, a vertically disposedstand pipe 11, a coupling orhousing 12 arranged at the top of the stand pipe 11 and provided withan out-let 13, a cut-off valve 14 interposed between the branches 7 and 8, a T- couplnig 15 interposed betweenthe branches 8 and 9, a four-way coupling 16 inter,
posed between the branches 9 and 10,
and an elbow coupling 17 is interposed be- 1 tween the branch 10 and the lower end of the stand pipe 11. the outer end of the T-coupling 4 is a combined vent and overflow line 18 which consists of a pair of pipe branches 19, 20,

Arranged below the elbow coupling 17 is a tank 24 which provides a collector for the condensates and a pipe 25 leads from the top of the tank 24 and opens intothe elbow coupling 17 whereby communication is established between the discharge line 5 and the tank 24. The tank 24 has extending therein a discharge pipe 26 for the condensates and said pipe 26 depends into the tank 24 to a point in proximity to the bottom thereof. The tank 24 has also connect- 00 tom thereof. It is thought that the many advantages of an attachment for the purpose referred to and :in accordance with this invention can be readily understood andxalthouglh the .preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope 'o-f the invention as claimed. lVhat I claim is: v 1 v .1. An attachment for oil storage tanks comprising a gas accumulating discharge lineleading from the upper portion of the tank and including a vertically disposed branch depending below the bottom of the tank :and ran angularly disposed branch positioned below the bottom of the tank and I terminating in a vertically disposed stand pipe having a safety valve at its upper end, a cut-oif' arranged in saidwangul'arly disposed branch intermediate the ends thereof,
a valve controlled vent line leading from a point in proximity to the tank and opening into said discharge line forwardly of said cut-off, and a condensate collector colnmunicating at its top with said discharge line forwardly of said cut-off, and means for d1scharg1ng=the condensates from said collector.
