When the car body is in its righted position the pins 11 of the parts 5 are seated in the depressions 6 of the parts t and these pins support the body and any weight carried thereby.
Assuming the car body being tilted or moved to one side toward discharging position from its righted position, the pin 11 of each hinge forms an axis around which the body rotates until such time as one of the curved portions 7 of the part 4 is engaged by one of the curved sides 10 of the part 5 when the weight of the body will be trans t'erred from the pin 11 to the parts I and 5 directly and by a continued movement of the body, the engagement of the parts I and F will cause thebody and pin 11 to be elevated to some extent and moved laterally at the same time. As the pin 11 is moved upwardly the eye bolts 12 are moved with it, thus causing the springs 14 to be compressed, thus retarding the momentum of the body as it is being tilted. It will here be noted that I besides retarding the momentum of the body the springs 14 willalso, to some extent, assist inrighting the body. It will be further noted that instead of the springs 1 L any other suitable retarding device may be used.
It will be understood that changes may bemade in the details and arrangement of the-several parts forming the invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Havingthus described the invention what I-claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is y 1. In a dump car, an undertrame, a tilting body mounted on said undertrame and resilient means at the longitudinal center line otthe car and between said body and underframe adapted to retard the momentum of said body as it is being tilted.
2. In a dump car, an underframe, a tiltingbody, a hinge for said body, and means attached to a movable part of said hinge and engaging a stationary part of said under-frame for retarding the momentum of said body as it is being tilted, said means being located at the longitudinal center line of the car.
8. In a dump car, an undertrame, a tilting body, a hinge for said body comprising a stationary part attached to said under frame and a movable part attached to said body, and means for retarding the momentum of said body when it is tilted, saidmeans being connected with said movable part and to a stationary part on said undertrame and 4 located at the longitudinal center line of the car.
4. In adump car, an underframe, a tilting body, a hinge for said body, a pin for said hinge forming a pivot for said body during a partial tilting thereof, and means forminga pivot for said body during the rest of the tilting movement of said body, and means connected with said pin and said underi rame tor retarding the momentum of said body when the first mentioned means forms apivot for said body.

hinge for said body having amovable part secured to said body and a stationary-part secured to said undertrame, a pin extending" through said movable part, being movable upwardly during ,a partial tilting of the body, membersiattached to the ends of said pin and extending downwardly through-a portion ofsaid undertrame, a bearing block loosely mounted on said members and extending beneath said stationarypart of said hinge, Washers on said members between said ashers and bearing block adapted to retard the movement of said body when saidpin is moved vertically.
10. In a dump car, an underframe, a body tiltably mounted on said underframe, a hinge for said body having a movable part attached to said body and a stationary part secured to said underframe, said hinge providing a central pivot for said body during 16 adapted to retard the momentum of said 1 body during its final tilting movement only.
