Description

Se t. I
p 13, 1927 acMlLL AN LAVATORY FIXTURE Original Filed Oct. 1a, 1922 I nvnswro'n hue/71 240 Patented Sept. 13, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY MACMILLAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
LAVATORY es to new and useful improvements in a lavatory fixture, the same being a division of my application bearing Serial Number 594,368, filed October 13th, 1922, and has reference more particularly to afiush tankoperating lever for use in actuating the ball controlled outlet from a tank having for its primary object to provide an operating lever projecting through the wall of a tank fulcrumed at a suitable point intermediate its length and adapted to actuate the flush or ball lever by a slight pressure upon the outer end of the operating lever.
Another object of the invention is to provide a nipple composed of two sections or parts connected together on opposite sides of a flush tank wall and in which an operating lever is suitably pivoted or fulcrumed for cooperation with a flush or ball lever pivoted to the nipple section which is within the tank.
With these ends in View, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming a v part of this application, in which Fig. 1, is a horizontal sectional elevation of a form of operating lever.
Fig. 2, is a front elevation thereof.
In carrying out my invention 49 represents a nipple formed of an outer section 50 and an inner section 51 each having a reduced portion 52 for registration with the hole in the tank wall, the two sections being drawn toward each other and against opposite faces of the tank wall by means of screws 53, or their equivalent, passing through one My invention relat of the sections and having threaded connection with the other section.
The inner section has an offset extension 54 carrying the trunnion 55 on which is pivoted or fulcrumed one end of the flush or ball lever 56 the same being held in place by a pin 57 The ball or flush lever 56 is actuated by the operating lever 58 passing through the aligned bores 59 of the nipple sections, said bores being preferably oval or elongated in cross section, as shown in Fig.
FIXTURE.
594,368. Divided and this application filed October Renewed January 31, 1927.
may be fulcrumed 2. "he ooeratin lever lid of elther of the upon a ledge of either e nipple sections or it may be fulcrumed upon a pin 60 passing through the operating lever with the ends thereof set in one of the sections.
The inner end of the operating lever is disposed beneath the ball lever, and on the outer end is mounted a push button or knob 61. by which said operating lever is to be actuated.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus what I claim as new and useful is 1. A flush tank operating lever comprising a two-piece nipple, each of the pieces having a reduced portion in a tank wall at opposite ends of said hole, means to fasten said parts together, an extension or arm carried by the inner part, a trunnion supported by said extension, a ball lever fulcrumed on said trunnion, and an operating lever passing through both parts of the nipple and fulcrumed in one of them, the inner end of said operating lever engaging the ball lever.
2. A flush tank operatinglever comprising a two-piece nipple, one of which is to be mounted on the inside of a tank and the other on the outside thereof, screws to fasten said pieces together on the tank wall, an operating lever fulcrumed within the nipple, and a pivoted ball lever to be actuated by said operating lever.
3. A flush tank lever comprisin a nipple including two parts, each part having a bore therethrough, one of said parts to be inserted from the front into a hole in the wall of a tank andthe other to be inserted in the same hole from the back, means tofasten said nipple parts together and against the tank wall, a ball lever fulcrumed to the nipple part in the tank, and an operating lever pivoted in the bore of the nipple and coacting with the ball lever to actuate the latter.
4. In a flush tank operating mechanism, a lever passing through a hole in the wall of a tank, a member mounted on the outside of the tank adjacent said hole, another member mounted inside of the tank adjacent said hole, independent means of securing the two for insertion in a hole fully described my invention,
members to the tank and to each other and means to fulcrum said lever on one of the said members.
5. In a flush tank operating mechanism, two members, one of which is mounted on one side of a tank Wall adjacent a hole therethrough and the other mounted on the other side of said tank Wall adjacent said hole; independent means for securing the tWo members to the tank Wall and to each other and a lever fulcrumed upon one of the said members.
6. In a flush tank operating mechanism, a member mounted on one side of a tank Wall adjacent a hole therethrough and another member mounted upon the other side of the tank wall adjacent said hole, means inde pendent of either of said members for securing said members to the tank Wall and to each other, and means to fulcrum a lever passing through said hole for actuating an other lever pivoted Within said tank.
7. In a flush tank operating mechanism, two members mounted against opposite sides of a tank Wall adjacent a hole therethrough, means of securing the said members to the tank and to each other, means to fulcrum a lever upon one of said members, to coact With a second lever fulcrumed Within said tank.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature.
HARRY BLEACMILLAN.
