This invention relates to locks of the' pin tumbler type and more particularly to' the manner in which the pi tumbler barrel and' associated l mechanismv is connected to the lock casing.
- accomplished.
vThe Vprincipal objrect of the invention is" the production of simple and' novel means by lmeans ofr Which the usual bolts or screws' for connecting the pin-tumbler barrel to the loclcasing may be threaded through the usual earson the tumbler barrel before they are inserted through thev usual openingsin the. rear plate ofi the l'oclr) lcasing thereby making. it unnecessary to .feel`' for' the ears ascust'omaril'y. v

Jhon the pai-ts have been assembled and the piirtiiinbler barrel hasl been inserted in the opening it has been customary to hold the plate` 6 against the rear it'ace of the door with the operating spindle i3 extending through the oiieiiing 1l. and then insert the screws or bolts through their openings and thread them through the ears il until the plate G is 'tigihtly clamped against the door. This has made it necessary to t'eel .tor the ears Qiwitli the ends olf the screws or bolts l5 which has been an awkward and therefore an obje@ tionable operation. lly ineens of this inveution this objection has been overcome as the screws or bolts 15 are iii'st thi' aided par tially through the ears 9. The pin tumbler barrel is then held in the opening T as ordinarily and the rear plate (i with the supplemental plates 'i9 in open position is held againstthe inner tace oit the door with the operating spindle l2 extending through the opening 11i and with the heads et the screws 15 extending through theimenings 14E. It is immaterial il? the operating spindle 13 should sag slightlyas the slots 12 have been provided to receive said spindle should this condition obtain. litter the parts described have been properly positioned the plates 1S) are brought into .meeting engagement with thelocling lugs Q5 enteringr the slots 2l. The screws 15 are then screwed cheine with the heads thereof engaging the beveled edges of the round openings termed by the semi-circular openings but as said open ings are too small to receive the heads oi said screws therethrough the parts are all held tightly in assembled and operatiye po? sition. The lock easing' 5 is then screued to the door with the rear plate G entering said casing in lthe usual manner.
I claim as my invention:
