' This invention relates to a smokepip'e connection for hotair furnaces.
The object of the invention is to provide a smoke-pipe outlet for a hot air furnace that will form a thoroughly dust and smoketight connection between 1 the combustion chamber or body and the casing of such fur nace whereby the air space within such casing will be maintainedfree of such dust, or

I Another object is to employ a one-piece smoke stub for a furnace, the same being connected to and extending from the combustion chamber or body and carried through 1? the air space between the said body and the usual surrounding casing, and through'land outside the latter and providing a dust tight arrangement for preventing dust fromentering the said airspace.

In Figure 1 is illustrated a well known type of furnace with which my invention is incorporated to show its use, and wherein 1 is a drum or body wherein fuel is consumed, the character 2 designating the throat through which fuel is introduced, 3 being the coal door. The structure through which such products are carried is now to be described, and forms the subject of the invention. That is to say, 7 is a pipe stubiwhichmay be a casting, the same openinginto the said drum 4 and having at one end a flange 8 securely riveted and welded to the wall of. such drum, saidstub extending through the space between the said drum and thecasing 6 and out through and beyond the latter as clearly I shown in Figure 2. Said stub 7 has an integral flange 9 between its ends and spaced I from the flange 8 as to abut upon the inner side of the casing 6. I A ring 10' abuts upon the outer side of'the casing and bolts 11 extending through the flange, ring and casing serve to clamp these parts firmly together,'the said flange and ring preferably each having an annular cavit-y 12, Figure 3, to receive a cement't'o' assist in providing a'perfect'seal between the stub 7, and the said casing. Although I have specifically referred to the member to which the stub 7 is connected,'as an example of the place of connection, it is to be understood that said stub may be attached to any part of a furnace from which the products of combustion are conducted.
A furnace structure of such nature as to insure that no dust or gases will reach the heated air space within the casing 6 is important-and in keeping with this precaution dust must not be permitted to reach the air space from the outside. The provision of a pipe stub such as 7, therefore, to extend from the heating drum 4; entirely through the air space and outside the otherwise tight casing and providing the clamping flange 9 and ring 10 insures that no leakage can occur at this point, an exceedingly important matter where cleanliness of the rooms to be heated is to be maintained.
Not alone is a leak-tight joint provided at the point named by the structure describe but such structure also serves for a very thorough bracing and strengthening of the casing 6, the stub in turn being braced at its outer end.
iVhile the flange 9 is preferably integral with the stub 7 it may be otherwise carried by said stub as long as no leakage can occur between the two.
I claim.
1. The eon'ibination with a furnace including a heating drum and a casing enclosing and spaced from the same, of a pipe stub secured to and opening into said drunn e:'- tending through. the space between the d rum and easing and through and outside the latter and including a flange between its ends to abut against the casing at one surface thereof. and a ring abutting against the opposite side of the said casing. and means to clamp the flange, casing and ring together.
2. The combination with a furnace including a heating drum and a casing enclosiug the same spaced therefrom, ot a pipe Stub having a flange at one end adapted to be tightly attached to said drum and ineluding an exterior flange between its ends spaced from the first said flange a distance equal to the space between the drum and the easing and abutting upon the latter. said stub at its free end extending through and outside the casing beyond the latter, a ring or annulus adapted to slip over the free end of the stub against. said casing, and means to clamp the casing between the last named flange and said ring or annulus.
3. The combination with a heating drum of a hot air furnace and an enclosing casing therefor of a one-piece stub attached at one end to the drum and at its other end extending through and outside the casing, said stub including an integral annular flange adapted to abut upon the casing at one side, and a loose ring or annulus adapted to be clamped upon the other side of the casing,
and means extending through the flange, casing and ring 01' annulus securing them in clamped relation.
4. The combination with the lurating drum of a hot air furnace and a casing enclosing the same, of a pipe stub opening into and extending from said drum through the said casing and outside and beyond the same, a flange encircling the stub between its ends closed thereto and abutting upon one side of the casing, a loose ring or annulus abutting against the opposite side of the casing. and means to clamp the flange and ring or annulus upon the said casino;
5. The combination with the heating drum of a hot air furnace and a casing enclosing the same, of a pipe stub opening into and extending from said drum through the said casing and outside and beyond the same, an integral flange encircling the stub between its ends and abutting against one Side of the said casing. a loose ring or anuulus abutting against the opposite side of the casing. and means to clamp the flange and ring or annulus upon said casing the said flange and said ring each having an ai'inular cavity in that face thereof abutting upon the casing.
6. The combination with a hot air furnace including a heating drum and a casing surrounding and enclosing the same, ot' a pipe stub opening into and extending from said drum and extending at its free end through and beyond the said casing, the same in eluding an integral tlai'ige between its ends abutting upon the side of the casing facing said drunl, a loose ring or annulus encircling the stub abutting upon the outer side of the casing. and means extending through the flange, casing and ring adapted to clamp those members to one another.
