The invention relates to a two way socket. The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of two way sockets and to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive two way socket of strong and durable y construction having` an insulating body molded of a single piece and equipped with longitudinally alined screw shell contacts and provided with spaced projecting Contact fingers arranged at right angles to thev longitudinally alined screw shell contacts and adapted to engage either a fixture to Connect the two Way sock et with the same and also to engage a screw plug `for enabling the two way socket to be connected with a fixture or other socket having a screw shell Contact.
A further Object of the invention is to t-ure or the like.
With these and other objects in view,l the l invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described", illustrated In the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form', proportion and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims,-

The ends of the cylindrical body are flared at t and are preferably provided with an exterior annular bead or enlargement 5. rIhe cylindrical extension 2 has embedded in its center an interiorly threaded metallic bushing 6 provided at the inner end with a circumferential projecting annular flange 7 constituting a head and adapted to enable the bushing to be. securely anchored within the extension 2 and the said flange 7'may be either smooth or corrugated as desired.
The cylindrical body is provided at opposite sides of the extension 2 with conductor bars 8 and 9 having exteriorly projecting portions forming contact'ingers and preferably provided with perforations l0 to engage with suitable protuberances of springs for providing an interlocking Contact between the lingers of the conductor bars 8 and 9and the coacting contacts of a screw plug ll or fixture, or the like with which the two way socket is connected. The conductor bar extends to the center of the dividing kpartition wall 3 and is equipped at its inner end with a hollow rivet l2 arranged at right angles to the inner portion of the conductory bar ,8 and extending longitudinally of the cylindrical body and projecting from the opposite faces of the dividing wall 3. The said conductor bar 8 consists of inner and outer portions connected intermediate of the ends of the conductor bar 8 by a connecting'portion- 13 arranged at right angles to the said inner and outer portions and formed integral with the same, the conductor bar 8 ,being constructed of a single piece of metal which is bent at right angles at spacedpoints and is clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing.r The transverse or intermediateV connecting portion 13 is embedded in the cylindrical extension 2 and the inner portion 14 extends along one of the faces of the wall 3 in flush relation with the same toa point beyond the center thereof, the hollow rivet l2 being located at the center and extending through insulating loo disks of grey liber or other suitable material and piercing and secured to center contacts 16. rlhe center contacts which consists of strips of suitable metal bent to form inner and outer portions are pierced at their inner portions by the said rivet which is headed by a suitable or blades tool, the outer J portions being bent back ior this purpose. The outer' portions are provided with cup shaped portions ot protuberances 17'to contact with' lamps and they are adapted to be readily bent and varranged in a proper position to provide a proper contact with the lamps.
Prior to assembling the insulating disks a pair of screw shell contacts 18 is arranged within the cylindrical body at opposite sides of the partition wall and with their flanges 19 in contact with the same. The partition wall is provided at the lower portion with an opening to permit a rivet 20 to be passed through the partition and secured to the flanges of the screw shell contacts lprior to assembling the insulating disks and the ccnter contacts. lern inner insulating disk 21 is also arranged between the inner portion 11i of the conductor bar 8 and the ilange 19 of the adjacent screw shell contact."
The conductor bar 9 which is L-shaped is also embedded in the cylindrical extension 2 during the operation ot molding the insulating body and it consists ot a straight body portion and an inner arm 22 which is arranged at the inner tace of the cylindrical body at one side of the partition so as to contact with one of the screw shell contacts. An electrical connection is thereby established between the inner arm 22 and one oi the screw shell contacts which is electrically connected with the other screw shell contact by the rivet 20 which secures the flanges of the shell contacts to the dividing wall 3.
llhe conductor bars are located at opposite sides of a central threaded bushing and the latter is adapted to be engaged by the inner threaded end 23 of a screw 24 'tor securing the plug 11 detachably to the two way socket. wWhen the plug 11 is detachably secured to the two way socket as illustrated in 1 oi the drawing, a two in one device is provided as the device with the parts assembled in this manner is adapted-to be screwed into an ordinary screw socket. lVhen, however, it is desired to attach the two way socket to a liXture or other socket having apertures and interiorly arranged contacts, the screw plug is detached by removing the bolt or screw 24. rllhis exposes the projecting` portions of contact lingers of the conductor bars 8 and 9 and affords the means for effecting the desired electrical and mechanical connection. The inner end of the screw plug is provided with a flange 25 which fits over and caps the cylindrical eX- tension 2 and the engagement oi the contact Leens?? lingers with the screw plug will prevent any rotary movement orn the same onthe bolt or screw. lt is therefore, necessary to rotate the bolt or screw by a wrench or other tool when itis desired to separate the parts and the said bolt or screw is provided at its outer end with a polygonal head for this purpose.
WV hat is claimed is:
1. A; two way socket comprising a cylindrical body of a single piece oit molded insulating material provided with an exterior enlargement and having a transverse partition wall located adjacent and bracing the enlargement and dividing the body into two separate compartments, conductor bars embedded in theenlargement, one ot the conductor bars terminating at one of the compartments at the inner tace ot the body and the other conductor bar consisting Yof oli'set inner and outer portions and a connecting intermediate portion wholly embedded in the said enlargement, the inner portion of such conductor bar extend-ing to the central portion of the partition wall in ilush relation with one of the faces thereoi, an insulating disk arranged at theV said inner portion oi1 the conductor bar, lshell contacts arranged within the said compartment and having lianges electrically connected and secured to the partition wall, one of the shell contacts having electricalconnection with the conductor bar which terminates at 'the inner tace ot the said body, central contacts secured to the said wall and electrically connected with the said' inner portion of the contact bar 'and insulating disks interposed between the central contacts and the flanges of the shell contacts.
2. A two way socket comprising a cylindrical one piece body having an exterior enlargement at one side between the ends of the body, the latter being also provided with a transverse partition located at the enlargement and dividing the body into two compartments, said enlargement being adapted to receive and form a seat 'for a screw plug arranged at right angles to the cylindrical body, a metal bushing vembedded in it, a bolt extending longitudinally through the Screw plug and having an inner end threaded in said bushing for securing the screw plug to the enlargement oit the body to form a single unit, conductor bars embedded in the enlargement and projecting outwardly therefrom to form spaced blades for engac ing interior contacts of the screw plug, shell contacts secured to thefpartition and electrically connected with each other and with one of the conductor bars and a central contact secured to the partition and electrically connected with the other conductor bar.
