Application led January 11, 1927. Sera-1 No. 160,439'.
This invention relates to brushes employed in clothing or tailoring establishments for brurshii-ig the cloth or garmentsr and` comprehends1 means associated with the brush for projecting jets ef steam through the b-ristles andy onto the surface being brushed.V
At the present time itis the common practiceto project onto the surface of the cloth or garments, a, jetaof steam and employ a separate. brush for the brushing operation. This system or methodhas a numberof disadvantages andobjectionable features and in order to overcome the saine the presentA invention aims to provi-de a combined brush and steaming-apparatus whereby the steaming and brushing operations are greatly facilitated. v
IThe invention furthermore comprehends a steaming brush provided with means for preventing an excessive wetting of the cloth or garments by removing and absorbing the water of condensation from the steam prior to its application to the surfaces being brushed.V
Other objectsreside in the simplicit. -of the construction, the economy with wiich the same may be produced and operated, and the general etliciency derived therefrom.
lVith the above recited and other objects in view, reference is had to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which there is exhibited certain examples or embodiments of the invention which are in no way intended as limitations upon the scope of the appended claims as it is to be clearly understood that variations and modifications which properly fall within the scope of said claims may be resorted to when found expedient.
In the drawings- Figure 1 isa longitudinal sectional view through the steaming brush; Y
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view therethrough taken approximately Von. the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view taken ap proximately on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4l is a fragmentary detail view of a modified adaptation of the invention.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 10 designates a brush head which is formed with a recess 11 on its under side and which may be provided with a manipulating handle 12 on its upper side. A cover plate 13 is attached to the under side which also constitutes a support'forl the' bristles 1l. A guard element 15 having a. central opening 16 conforming substantially'Y to the size and shape ofthe recess 11, is interposed between the cover plate 13 and the brushhead 10, and is preferably of rubber or. any other suitable material to serve as a gasket or sealing element between the con'-V i'rcnting faces of the cover plate 13 and the brush head. The guard element is ofV a. size to project appreciably beyond the sides and ends of the brush head. A nozzle 17 extends through the brush head 10 and communicateswith the recess 11 and said nozzleisprovided with an oll'set outer end 18 which is connected with a flexible conduit 19,- which conduit is inf turn connected with a sourceof steam supply.. Between' the offset end 18 and the outlet end of thenozzle, an outlet pipe 20 depends and is connected with a condensate conduit 21 which conduit is preferably bound tothe steam conduit 19. The cover plate 13 is formed with a plurality of ports 22 which are adapted to discharge steam through the bristles from the base of the same. lVithin the recess 11, a suitable absorbent material 23 is positioned to further assist in removing from the steam the water of condensation.
In use and operation, the steam supplied through the conduit 19 is prevented by the offset 18 from directly entering the recess 11`so that water f condensation produced in the conduit 19 will be partially discharged through the outlet 2O into the condensate conduit 21. The condensate which is introduced into the recess 11, will be further partially absorbed by the absorbent material 23 so that the steam which is finally projected through the ports 22 and through the bristles onto the surface of t-he cloth being brushed, will be fairly free of water of condensation in order to prevent an excessive wetting of the surface being brushed. 'The portionof the guard element 15 which extends beyond the side and end edges of the brush head, will' prevent live steam from vcontacting with and injuring the hand or arm of the operator.
