Patented Aug. 30, 1927.
UNITED STATES I 1,640,405. PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES T. HATCH, O1 ALBION, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TOUNION STEEL PRODUCTS COMPANY, ALBION, MICHIGAN.
DISPLAY RECEPTACLE.
Application filed February 21, 1927. Serial No. 169,881.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved display receptacle in which the bottom may be adjusted to vary the capacity of the receptacle.
A further object is to provide a structure having this advantagewhich may be collapsed.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow. The
invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. ,1 is a perspective View of my improved receptacle with the bottom adjusted to one of its positions. I
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view with the bottom adjusted to another of its positions.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical section on a line corresponding to line 33 of Fig. 2
showing the bottom in adjusted position to permit collapsing of the receptacle.
In the embodiment illustrated my improved display basket or receptacle comprises end members designated' generally by the numerals l, 1, rear side member 2 and frontside member 3. The end members are substantial duplicates and the front and rear side members are also substantial duplicates in the embodimentillustrated.
The end members ,-comprise corner uprights 4 formed of wire or like rods connected by cross members 5, the top cross member being formed integrally with the uprights in the embodiment illustrated. Vertical slats 6, suitably spaced, are secured to the cross members. The uprights are extended into legs 7, the lower ends of the front legs being continued into diagonally disposed braces 8 Secured to the rear uprights.
The front and rear side members comprise the longitudinal or horizontal members 9 provided with eyes 10 at their ends engaging the uprights 4. Vertical slats ii are carried by and connect the longitudinal members 9 and terminate in eyes 13 engaging the legs adjacent their lower ends.
The upper ends of the braces 12 are turned downwardly into uprights 14 secured to the lower ends of the opposite brace. This forms a very rigid structure and at the same time itmay be made of comparatively light material.
The bottom designated generally by the numeral 15 comprises a border frame 16 to which the longitudinal slats 17 are secured. The bottom is provided with transverse members 18 terminating in downwardly facing hooks 19 at their front ends and eyes 20 at their rear ends. The eyesQO are engaged with the loop-like links 21, the arms of which are pivoted at 22 on the rear side member so that the bottom may be supported with the links in an upright position as shown in Fig. 1, the hooks being engaged with the intermediate longitudinal member of the front or the bottom may be supported with the links in depending position, in which position the hooks are engaged with the bottom longitudinal .member of the ner of collapsing will be readily understood by those skilled in this art, The collapsing of the receptacle has decided advantage in the matter of storage and shipment and the adjustability of the bottom adapts the receptacle for a great variety of uses.
I have illustrated and described my improvements in one embodiment which has met commercial favor. I have not attempted to illustrate other embodiments as it is be lieved this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt the same as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a collapsible receptacle the combination of end members including corner uprights, front and rear members including vertically spaced horizontal members provided with eyes engaging said end member provided with transverse members projecting at their ends, the front ends of said transverse members being formed into down-- turned hooks adapted to be engaged witl'i horizontal members of the front, the rear ends terminatingin eyes, and links on the rear member engaging said eyes whereby the bottom may be supported with. the links in upright position or in a depending position with the hooks engaged with different front longitudinal members or the hooks may be disengaged and the bottom suspended in vertical position from said links permitting collapsing of the receptacle,
. 2. In a collapsible receptacle, the combination or end members comprising corner uprights and connecting horizontal cross pieces, the uprights being extended into and vertical slats secured to said cross pieces, front and rear side members comprising horizontal members provided with eyes engaging said end member uprights where by the side and end members are pivotally connected permitting collapsing upon each other and vertical slats connecting said liori- Zontal side meml ers, a bottom comprising a border frame and longitudinal slats secured thereto, and transverse members projectin at their ends beyond the border frame and provided with eyes at their rear ends and forwardly facing hooks at their front ends, the hooks being adapted to be engaged with different longitudinal members of the front side member, and links engaging eyes pivotaliy mounted on the rear side member whereby the bottom may be supported with the links in an upright position or in a depending position with the hooks engaged with different longitudinal members or the bottom may be suspended in vertical position from said links permitting collapsing 01 the receptacle.
3. A receptacle comprising end members, front and rear side members pivotally conon said botto a so that tl1e bottom may be supported with the links in an upright position or in a depending position with the hooks engaged at different elevations with the front wall thereby providing receptacles of different capacities or the hooks may be disengaged and the bottom suspended from said links permitting the collapsing of the receptacle.
l. Al elected by vertical nivo to permit collapsa bottom adjustable within the walls,
I I a link connecting one edge of the bottom to one or the walls, and means for adjustably connecting the opposite edge of the bottom with the opposite wall at different elevations whereby the bottom may be supported with the links in upright position or in suspended position thereby varying the capacity of the receet ele, or the bottom may be collapsed in suspended relation upon the'links permitting the collapsing of the side walls;
A receptacle comprising walls connected by vertical pivots to permiticollapsing upon each other, a bottom provided with means at one edge detachably engageable with tie adjacent wall at different elevations, and a supporting link for the opposite edge of said bottom pivoted on the wall adjacent such edge for vertical swinging adustment so that the bottom may be supported with the link in an upright position or in a depending position or the bottom may be suspended in a vertical position on said link permitting the collapsing of the receptacle. Q
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
