' 8, 23, 24 and 26 are provided with screws having heads 47 extended above said faces, and arranged to project through suitable apertures 48 in the margins of the respective diaphra'gms l, 2, 3 and 4 and extend into complementary sockets 49 in the under faces of the side rails 22, 23, 24 and 26 the heads 47 extended from the surface of the side rails 8 being also extended through apertures 50 in the lianges 6 of the pan 5. The composite structure thus assembled may be rigidly held together by .suitably provided clamps which embrace said structure and which may preferably comprise the hasps 52 hingedly connected to the side rails 8 by the pintles 53 and having` their free extremities 54 extended across theside rails and terminating in the upwardly directed opposed ears 85, as best-shown in FigA 4. Said hasps are arranged to be connected by the through bolt or stay rod 86 which extends through said ears 85 and through the spacing sleeve 87 serving as a gauge to properly space said hasps when the nuts 88 of said bolt 86 engage said ears.
The free extremities 54 of said hasps, which extend transversely over the side rails, are preferably provided with set screws 90 which may be adjusted to impinge upon the cover plate 7, and thereby tend to bind or press the frame side rails against the opposite surfaces .of the margins of the interposed plates or diaphragms.
Should it be desired to remove and replace any of the plates or diaphragme, the clamps may be released and the hasps 52 thrown back upon their pintles 53, thus permitting the frame units to be separated and caused to assume a relatively inclined or fan-like position by oscillating .them about the axis of the shaft 36, thereby allowing the plates or dia hrao'ms which loosel rest u von said CTL frame units to be withdrawn by merely lifting them sufficiently to clear the projecting heads 47 on the side rails of said units.
To facilitate the separation of the spacing units, their side rails 22, 23, 24 and 26, may be provided near their free ends with inverted U-shaped bails 55, 56, 57 andv58 respectively, having the free ends of their parallel arms pivoted tothe rails at 60, 6l, 62 and 63, said bails being` provided with the eye- bolts 64, 65, 66 and 67 respectively connected by flexible cablesfor chains68, 69, 70 and 7l, after passing over the drums 72 and 73, with the grooves 75, 76, 77 and 78 of effected by the crank handle 8O on the shaft 8l having the pinion 82 in toothed engagement with the gear 83 on the shaft 84 of the cone sheave.
It will be obvious that the unit 22 will bel connected with the groove of greatest diameter, the unit 23 with the groove 76 of less diameter, the unit 24 with the groove 77 of still smaller diameter, and the unit 26 with the groove 7 8V of smallest diameter, so that when the cone sh-eave 7 9 is rotatedV the' relative rate of movement of said units ywill uniformly decrease from the top unit downward and their relative separation therefore be substantially uniform.v

Although foraminous diaphragme and perforatedfplates are herein referred toit is' to be understood that the screeningvmedium may comprise a reticulated wire mesh or any other desired form of means for., separating the relatively fine from the coarser particles. l v
I do not desire to limit my invention to the precise details of construction and arrangement as herein set forth, as itis obvious that lvarious modificationslmay be made therein withoutdeparting from the essential features of my invention as defined in the appended claims. f

A screen comprising relatively spaced perforated diaphragme, a plurality of spacing units hingedly connected to be relatively oscillated about a common aXie disposed away from said units, and between which units the margins of said diaphragme may extend and be removably engaged, and clamping means embracing said units and arranged to lock said units and diaphragme together to form a rigid composite screen structure. l

A screen comprising a plurality of relatively spaced perforated diaphragme, hingedly connected spacing units between which said diaphragme are arranged to be removably engaged, and means operative to relatively separate said unite by simultaneously moving them about the axis of said hinged connection to permit removal of the diaphragms.

A screen comprising relatively spaced perforated diaphragme, a plurality of spacing units hingedly connected to be relatively moved toward and from each other about a common axis, and means arranged to relatively separate said unit-s and to move them at such relatively different speeds that the ,spaces between adjacent units will be maintained substantially uniform.

A screen comprising relativ-ely spaced perforated diaphragme, a plurality of spacing units bet-ween which the margins of said diaphragme may be removably engaged, means arranged to clamp said units andy dia phragme together to form a rigid composite structure, and means arranged to Simultaneously separate said units at one of their relatively adjacent ends while maintaining` them in uniformly spaced relation irrespective of the extent of their relative separati-on.

A screen comprising relatively spaced perforated diaphragme, a plurality of frame units arranged to space said diaphragme apart and between which said diaphragme are removably engaged and rigidly held, means on said spacing units cooperatively registerable to insure alinement of said units and diaphragme, and means arranged to relatively separate said frame units simultaneously while preserving the same relative angular relation between adjacent units to permit the removal and replacement of said diaphragme.

A screen comprising relatively spaced perforated diaphragme, a plurality of frame units arranged to space said diaphragme apart, and between which the margins of said diaphragmsare removably engaged and rigidly held, the opposed surfaces of said frame units respectively having recesses and projections complementary to each other, arranged to register and insure alinement of said units, and means including a drum having stepped pulleys of relatively diderent diameters respectively connected vwith said frame units and arranged, when actuated, to effect the separation of said units at relatively different speeds, whereby their substantially uniform separation may be simultaneously effected.

In a screen of the class described, the combination with a plurality of perforated diaphragme, of a plurality of frame units comprising lat-eral rails connected by U- shaped channel bars, and between which units the lateral margins of said diaphragme are arranged to be removably engaged and rigidly secured, a shaft .extending parallel with the end of said frame units spaced therefrom exterior thereof and about which said units are arranged to be oscillated, a bail pivoted to each of said frame units, a rotatable drum connected with said baile, and arranged when rotated to effect the separation of said units about thje axis of said shaft, and means arranged to actuate said drum.

In a screen of the class described, the combination with a plurality of perforated diaphragme, of a plurality of frame units arranged to maintain said diaphragme relatively spaced apart, and between which the margins of said diaphragme are arranged to be engaged, a base frame upon which said units are mounted for relative oscillation, locking means embracing the units and ar ranged to rigidly secure said frame units and diaphragme to said base frame and to readily release said parte, and means arranged to relatively rock said frame units on said base frame whereby said unite may be contemporaneou'sly separated and all of the diaphragme simultaneously released.

A multiple deck screen having a plurality of spacing frame units, a plurality of diaphragme rested upon the respective units and having their margins engaged therewith by the superjacent unite, and means arranged to contemporaneously separate said units in fan-like relation, comprising adrum having cone pulleys respectively connected with said frame unite.
