Description

Patented Aug. 16, 1927.\
UNITED STATES ISIDOR J'. KU'SEL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COIN" BANK.
Application filed October 16,1922. Serial No. 594,715.
My invention relates to coin banks, and particularly to coin banks in which a time piece is employed.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple and pratical formV of d'evice of the class specified.
Another object of the invention is to arrange for a simple construction for causing the coins to automaticallystop a time piece employed in connection with the bank.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 1s a. plan view of a coin bank embodying my present invention;
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same partially in section;
Fig. 8 is a side elevation of an end part of the bank with a portion broken away for convenience of illustration;
Figs. 4 and 5 are views of details of construction.
Referring to the drawings, I show a bank conveniently in the form of an elliptical shell 1 having a. handle 2 by which the bank can be carried. A watch 3 is shown mounted in one side of the bank with a stem 4 projecting through the top of the same and a crystal 5 projecting through the side so that the face of the clock may be seen and the time told.
Four apertures 6, 7, 8 and 9 are shown in .the top of the shell V1, such apertures being for the insertion of coins. The `aperture 6 is for quarters, the aperture 7 fordiine's, the aperture 8 for nickels and the aperture 9 for one-cent pieces. A movable member conveniently in the form of a band 10 is.
arranged in connection with the coin apertures and also in connection with the watch 3, so that the insertion of a coin in any coin aperture will control the watch, permitting it to be wound. To such end the member 10 is provided with the inclined portions 10", which are respectively arranged below7 each of the coin apertures 6 to 9, inclusive and this band 10 is further provided with a pin 11 adapted to be inserted into an aperture 12 in the stem 4a of the watch and thereby prevent the latter from being wound. The band 10 is secured at its ends to the casing or shell 1 and upon the Contact of a coin with one of the inclinedportions 10a the band will move and cause the withdrawal of the pin 11 from contact with the winding stem,yper mitting the rotation of the latter. Ordinarily the pin 11 is in position so that the watch cannot be wound, but when a coin is inserted in any slot the band 10 is actuated so as to Withdraw the pin 11 and permit the watch to be wound. Thus in order to get the benefit of the time piece, that is allow it to be Wound, a coin must be inserted from time to time and consequently saving habit will be assisted.
It will be understood that changes and modifications may be'made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
lVhat I claim is: 11A coin .bank provided with a time piece having a winding stem, yand having a plurality ol slots and also a member entending across all of said slots inthe path of movement of a coin introduced into any of said slot-s and means whereby the introduction of the coin into any of said slots actuates said member and controls the winding of said time piece.
2. A coin bank provided with a time piece having a winding stem and also having a plurality of slots and means operating in connection with said slots to control said time piece, said means comprising a movable member located with respect tothe coin slots to extend anll'serve all of said slots, said member being provided with a pin adapted to Vnormally engage said winding stem, but to be disengaged therefrom when a coin is inserted in any one of the slots.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 13th da of July,'A. D., 1922.
