IMPROVEMENT IN STONE-CUTTERS GAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,910, dated June 1, 1875; application filed April 3,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN R. BATCHEL- DER, of Prospect, in the county of Waldo and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Stonc-Outters Gage, of which the following is a specification: i
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved stone-cutters gage, and Fig. 2 an end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved device to be used by stone-cutters and carvers for facilitating the working of molding and carving, and also for ascertaining the different depth and angle of complicated members in carving in stone.
The invention consists of an adjustable gage that is clamped to the tongue of a square, and capable of being set to any angle or depth of sinkage.
In the drawing, A represents the slotted guide-piece, which is applied by a clampingscrew, B, to the tongue of a square used by stone-cutters. A sliding rod, 0, of suitable length is applied by means of a sleeve-shaped socket, D, with screw-bolt and nut l), to the end of clamping guide-piece A, so that the end of rod 0, in such a manner that it may be swung entirely around its set-screw E, and adjusted to any required angle or depth of a molding or casing to be held rigidly in such position as long as required by the workman.
The usefulness of the gage will be readily appreciated by any worker in stone, wood, &c., it forming a durable, quickly-adjusted, and time and labor saving attachment to the square.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The adjustable gage for attachment to stonecutters squares, consisting of a clam pin g guidepiece, A, with a sliding rod, 0, applied thereto by socket and clamp-screw, and provided with an adjustable slotted gage-piece and setsorew at the end, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
ED WIN R. BATGHELDER.
