' IMPROVEMENT IN STARCH LUBRICANTS.
Spccification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,809, dated May 25, 1875; application filed March 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARY E. ROBINSON, of Jackson, in the county of Hinds and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Starch Lubricants; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to that class of compounds which are used for starching,1ubricat ing, and giving luster in the process of ironing or smoothing textile fabrics; and the nature of my invention consists in the employment of soap to be mixed with the starch, said soap having the same color as the fabric to be ironed, whereby the color of the latter will be heightened, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
To prepare the starch compound, I take a quantity of starch of any kind, provided the quality be good, and dissolve the same in water, using a sufficient quantity of starch to make the fabric properly stiff when smoothed by the iron. I then take, say, one-third of any kind of clean white soap where the fabric to be operated on is white; or, in case the fabric is colored, then a colored soap may be used, relying on the coloring matter therein to assimilate with'and heighten the color of the fabric, in the proportion of one-third of soap, by weight, to two-thirds of the starch, or in any other suitable proportions, to form a perfect lubricant when the iron is passed over the fabric.
The soap is dissolved. in the starch and thoroughly mixed therewith.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A starch lubricant composed of starch and soap mixed together in about the proportions set forth, the soap being of the same color as the fabric to be ironed, as andfor the purpose specified.
