UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EASEL.
Application filed September 20, 1926. Serial N 0. 136,638.
This invention comprehends the provision of an ease] primarily intended for supporting a photograph or the like, in a manner whereby the easel is largely concealed irom view by the photograph, and the latter steadily supported.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connectionwith the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the photograph by dotted lines supported upon the easel.
Figure 2 is a side elevation partly in section.
Figure 3 is a top plan view.
The easel forming the subject matter of the present invention comprises a base which is substantially of triangular contour in plan, and has secured to the under side thereof a piece of felt or other relatively soft material indicated at 11, so that the easel can be supported upon highly polished furniture or the like without inarring or otherwise injuring the same. Support-ed upon the base is a substantially inverted Vshaped standard including a straight limb 12 and a rearwardly inclined limb 13, these limbs being connected at the base by the transverse portion 14 of the limb 12 which is extended forwardly from the latter, re-
posing upon the base, and has its free end extended upwardly along the limb 13 to which it is riveted or otherwise suitably secured by fastening elements 15. The transverse portion 14 of the strip 12 has an opening to receive a threaded element 16 rising from the base, and which element has associated therewith a thumb nut 17. Supported by the lower end of the inclined limb 13 is an angle iron bar, the vertical flange 18 of which is secured to the limb 12 by one of the rivets or fastening above mentioned, while the remaining flange 19 of said bar is slightly inclined upwardly, so that when the photograph 20 is arranged upon this flange, it inclines slightly to repose againstthe limb 13. In this manner the photograph is steadily supported upon the ease], the standard of thelatter being of a size with relation to the photograph 20, so that when the latter is mounted upon the easel, practically the entire structure of the latter is concealed from view. The invention provides means for advantageously displaying photographs and the like in show windows, and stores, and can also be used to good advantage in homes for supporting and displaying photographs and the like. The construction also permits the photograph to be quickly removed from or placed upon the easel without any trouble, as the photograph is supported upon the latter without the use of any attaching means whatsoever.
lVhile it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood, that I do not limit myselfto what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
lVhat is claimed is:
An easel of the character described comprising a substantially triangular shaped base, a standard rising therefrom and including a straight limb and an inclined limb, the lower end of the straight limb'being extended transversely across the base and then extended upwardly at a point rearwardly of the forward edge of the base and against the inclined limb, fastening means connecting the adjacent ends of the limbs together, and an angle bar reposing on the base immediately in advance of the inclined limb and secured to the latter by the same meanswhich connect the ends of the limbs together, the horizontal flange of said angle bar being inclined upwardly from its point of connection with the base for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
NOAH ELLSWVORTH HARRIS.
