MECHANICALLY-MOVED TOY. I
Application filed October 23, 1926, Serial No. 143,652; and in Germany January 13, 1926.
This invention relates to a mechanically moved to} or" that kind in which in a socket like casing coupling elements and supporting arms are arranged which are rotated in a circleby means of a clockwork andanfiuenced by. an action from the outer side, said supporting arms moving figures wh ch project from the casing, so that the one ligure catches up with another figure whereby for instance a pursuit is imitated.
From tovs of this kind and of known construction the toy according to the invention differs by its special construction, essentially with regard to the arrangement of the inner couplin elements and ot the arrangement which limits the pursuit-proceedino; to a predetermined duration of rotation, wherebv the tov is made much more interest ing. the construction being simplified and the cost of manufacturing reduced.
.Vith this object in view one of the arms, which earrv the tov-figures. is connected to the axle oi the clock-work the other supporting arm being loosely mounted on this axle. but pulled along by the positively operated supporting arm with the aid ot a coupling lever, oscillatablv mounted on said arm. an adjust-ingandbrake lever be ng; arranged for the supportingarms at the side of the track. so that it partly embraces these arms and so that it can be operated from the outer side. I 1
According to the directionan whicn tors adjusting brake-lever is moved the loose arin is braked. i. e. its toy-figure is kept oack so that the moving supporting aim nannies until, bv means of the adjusted coupling lever; the loose supporting arm with its hf;- ure is drawn up to the end of said brakelever. I A tov according to the invention 1 bv wai of example, in the acco drawing in which Fig.1 is a front elevation partly in tion. the base plate dove-tail being; omitted.
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Fig. 3 shows a constructional detail. Fig. a: shows in side elevation partly 1n section a figure imitating a policeman who regulates the tratlic.
With a base plate Z) which has dove-tails a at the edge. a bottom plate 0 connected by means of bow-shaped elements (I gripping over both plates. and which might imitate constructive works of the railway construc tion, in such a manner that between the two plates an annular slot 6 is formed. A supporting arm 7 has a vertical support 2' at its outer end. which projects through the annular slot 6. The axle 7b of the clockwork has a winding square g. The lever arm f has at its outer end a vertical support 2' on which a toy motor car or other tov figure 7: is fixed. On the axle h a second arm Z is rotatably mounted which carries on a vertical pin m projectingthrough the annular slot 6 a second toy figure, for in.- stance a cyclist n. Asickle-shaped twoarm lever 0, p is rotatably mounted on the supporting arm which is controlled hv a two-armed lever r, s pivotall mounted on apin 1 fixed on the lower surface of the base plate b. The arm 7 of this twoarmed level-is. adapted 'tobe operated bv means of a handle a which projects 'hr oua'li an arc-shaped slot 25 of the'base plat-cf The arm 1* carries a stop nose a projecting towards the clockwork and having at one. side a downwardly projecting flan go 20 serving-as abutmentp The other arm 3 of theitwoarmed lever carries a downwardly projectmg pressure plate :0 which cooperateswith a slide a guided on the arm Z and'eontrolled by a spring 3 or with an vupwardlv directed abutment plate 2 of this slide. The slide 2 carries a pin 3 upwardly projecting through the arm Z and adapted to be brought into or out of the range of the arm '7) of the catch lever accordingto the position oi slide .2. The length of the stop nos-e 0; and the projection of the pressure plate m are selected .so that the coupling levero. p. which in the; position shown in Fig. 3 and atthe extremeposition of the adjusting lever. r. .9 shown in this figure, is out of engagement with the pin 3 of "the slide .2 pressed on bv the pressure plate so that after the winding up of the clockwork the toy fig irealone is moved in a circle. If the arm 1" of the adjusting. lever r, s is then moved in wards the slide 2', owing to the backward movement of the pressure. plate a; is shifted treme position indicated in Fig. 3 in dash lines, the arm 0 strikes against the abutment plate to so that, when the supporting arm 7 continues to move, the arms 0, p of the coupling lever are folded over onto this supporting arm f. At the same time the supporting arm Z, owing to the sickle-shape of the arm 79 of the coupling lever which grips the pin 3, is pulled on at accelerated speed so that the supporting arms 7 and Z are the one directly behind the other and that the toy figure it has come up with the toy figure 7a which has been'stopped by the supporting arms 7 striking against the abutment plate.
In this manner the police regulation valid in the United States can be reproduced in V the game that the traflic-policeman observes a. driver of a motor car, for instance, from under one of the imitation railway constructions, pursues him and forces him finally to stop.
The toy figure which represents the tratfic policeman mounted on a bicycle can stop under a. bridge or the like as, the pressure plate is arranged underneath such a superstructure. As long as at the releasing of the stop nose 1: the projecting slide a does not butt against the pressure plate a2 which is in the braking position the loosely rotatable supporting arm Z is drawn along by means of the coupling lever 29 from the fixed sup porting arm If however the slide a strikes against the pressure plate 00 the movable supporting arm Zis locked and the fined arm 7 continuesto move alone, the coupling arm 7) being turned beyond the catch pin 3 until it strikes against the abutment l,
In order to make the game more interesting the arrangement is made that by means oithe handle a of the two-armed lever r, s
- and by abutments 5, 6 on the stop nose 4) a .toy figure which imitates a policeman or the like is moved forward or backward as these abutments 5, 6 of the adjusting lever are coupled with a projection 7 of the bottom plate Sol this toy figure 9. Underneath the base plate an inclined guide 10 is arranged with which a connecting rod 11 ot the arm 13 ot' the toy figure 9, said arm having a crank 12,
cooperates in such a manner that when the toy figure 9 is advanced the arm 13 is raised by the inclined guide 10 so that the toy figure 7c is stopped.
I claim j 1. A mechanically operated toy comprise ing in combination a base plate, two toy figures on said base plate, a clockwork, a supporting arm for one of said toy figures r1gid with and operated from said clockwork, a
supporting arm for the other toy figure loosely connectedto said clockwork, a twoarmed adjusting lover, a pressure or brake plate on the outer end of one of the arms of said adjusting lever, means for operating said adjusting lever from the outer side, a spring controlled slide shiftable on said loose supporting arm, a sickle-shaped twoarmed coupling lever pivotally mounted on said fiX-ed supporting arm, apin on the inner and said slide is pushed back by. said pres sure or brake plate and said pin of said slide comes out of the range of said coupling lever whilst when said slide is released said coupling lever catches said pin and pulls said loose supporting arm gradually towards said nred supporting arm until bothsupporting arms are stopped by said brake nose.
2. A mechanically operated toy comprising in combination a base plate, two toy ures on said base plate, a clockwork, a supporting arm for one of said toy figures rigid with and operated from said'clockwork, a supporting arm for the other toy figure loosely connected to said clockwork, a twoarmed adjusting lever, a pressure or bral e plate on the outer end or one of the arms of: said adjusting lever, means for operating said adjusting lever from the outer side, a spring controlled slide shittable on said loose supportingarm, a sickle-shaped two-armed coupling lever pivotally mounted on said fiX-ed supporting arm, a pin on the inner end of said slide adapted to come into the range of said coupling lever, a brake arm at the free end of the second arm of saidadjusting lever, a brake nose on said brake arm and adapted to act upon said coupling lever so that, it said adjusting lever is operated said brake arm releases said coupling arm and said slide is pushed back by said pressureor' brake plate and said pin or said slide comes out of the range of said coupling lever, whilst when said slide is released said coupling lever catches said pin and pulls said loose supporting arm gradually towards said fixed supporting arm until both supporting arms are stopped by said brake nos-e, a third toy figure at the side o1 the base plate, a movable arm of aid toy figure, a connecting rod hing-edly mounted on said arm, an inclined guide underneath said third toy figure, a stop nose at the upper end of said inclined guide, and means for connecting said connecting rod with said adjusting lever so that the arm of said third toy figure is lifted when said first mentioned two toy figures are stopped.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
