MOP HANDLE.
Application filed February l l, 1927. Serial No. 168,072.
This invention aims to provide novel means whereby a swab may be held securely but releasably on a. handle.
Figure 1. shows in side elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure vice is viewed. at right angles to the showing of Figure 1; I
Figure 8 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure t is a section on the line 4t l of Figure 3. r
The device comprises a loop-shaped metal head 1 including diverging U-shaped members 2, the outer sides 2 of which define an inwardly projecting angle 2 the inner sides 2 of the parts 2 merging into parallel side arms 3. The arms have converging parts 5 provided with parallel ends 6 lo cated more closely together than are the arms 3. A yoke piece 7 is mounted on the parallel ends 6, the said ends being riveted at 8 on the yoke piece. A. presser bar 9 1s slid-able on the arms 3 and has projections 10 which thicken the bar and make it slide the more readily on the arms 3 without tllting and pinching. A screw 11 is threaded into the yoke piece 7 and engages the presser bar 9 to advance the presser bar, the screw 11 being fired in a handle 12.
Because the parts 5 converge, as shown in Figure 1, they atlord abutments against which the yoke piece 7 is held by the riveting shown at 8. Moreover, this construction enables the yoke piece 7 to be short, so that it will the better resist the strain imposed upon it by the screw ll.
The presser bar 9 has a seat 14, and the screw 11 has a smooth end 15 journaled in the seat. The pr jections at 10 aid in keeping the presser bar at right angles to the screw 11; and the end 15 of the screw does not get jammed or cramped in the seat 14 of the presser bar 9. The swab (not shown) may be released quickly, by simply backing out the screw 11, to release the presser bar 9. r hen the presser bar 9 is advanced, the angle at 2 parts the swab and directs it into the U-shaped members 2 of the head 1. Although the device is referred to as a mop handle, it will be understood that it may be made in any size desired.
What is claimed is 2 is an elevation wherein the de- 1. In a device of the class described, a triangular looped head the outer side of which defines an inwardlyprojecting angle the inner sides of the head merging into parallel side arms, a presser bar slidable on the arms toward and away from said angle, and cooperating with said angle to form a swab-grip, a screw threaded into a, portion of the head and engaging the bar to advance the bar toward said angle, and a handle whereon the screw is fixed.
2. In a device of the class described, a triangular looped head the outer side of which defines an inwardly ,projectingangle, the inner sides of the head merging into parallel side arms having converging parts provided with parallel ends located more closely together than are the arms, a yoke piece on the parallel ends, said ends being riveted on the yoke piece to bind the yoke piece against said converging parts, a presser bar slid-able on the arms and cooperating with said angle to form a swab grip, a screw threaded into the yoke piece and engaging the bar to advance the bar, and a handle whereon the screw is fiXedth-e convergence of said parts oithe arms servin also, to shorten theyoke piece, whereby it will the better resist the strain imposed on it by the screw.
8. In a device of the class described, a triangular looped head the outer side of which defines an inwardly projecting angle, the inner sides of the head merging into parallel side arms, a presser bar slidable on the arms toward and away from said angle, and cooperating with said angle to form a swab grip, a screw threaded into a portion of the head and engaging the bar to advance the bar, and a handle whereon the screw is liXedthe presser bar having a seat, and the screw having a smooth cylindrical end journaled in the seat, the bar having projections through which the arms pass, the projections serving to thicken the bar and aiding in holding the bar at right angles to the arms, thereby to prevent the cylindrical end of the screw from becoming ]ammed in the seat. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
