' This invention relates to an extension device for flexible bracelets more especially wrist watch strapsto be'unfolded 'for the pur ose of extending the operating length of t e strap and the object of'the invention is to provide a plurality of sections of an inexpensive construction which are ivoted together at one end and have a re easable frictionally operated attachment 'at their opposite end; j 4
A further object of the invention is to provide a releasable securing means at the co ends of the sections by integral formations on the sections which cooperate to snap one over the other in a direction longitudmally of the device.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a lateral extension on the plate section and cooperating. receiving means in the walls of a channel section into which said extension ma be snapped to secure the sections in fol ed position.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompan in drawings:
Figure 1 is a si e e evation showing my improved extension device in its working position in a watch bracelet strap.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the channel section.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the plate section.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the device in assembled position showing the undercut end of one of the side walls of the channel section which is adapted to be snapped over a portion of the plate section to releasably secure the sections together.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the sections in folded position.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Figure 1.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the device m unfolded position with portions of the wrist watch strap attached.
Figure 8 is a perspective view showing) a modified form 0 releasable engagement etween the free ends of the sections.
7 It is found desirable to provide a con necting device interposed between the ends of a wrist watch strap of such construction 'w eare'r to and from that the same may be unfolded to temporarily len hen the bracelet and permit the same to sition on the wrist and in order to provide such a device of simple and inexpensive construction I have provided one member channel sha in cross section and the other member of s eet metal. formation with integraltrunnions pivotally supported in such walls of the channel section, and I have provided suitable formations between the'end of the wall of the channel section, such as undercutting or recessing the same and cooperating lateral extensions on the plate section to snap beneath these undercut or into the recess portions to frictionally releasably retain the device in folded position; and the following is a detailed description of the resent embodiment of this invention and s owing one means by. which these advantageous results may be accomplished:
With reference to the drawings, 10 designates the channel section having side walls 11 with openings 12 adjacent one end thereof in which laterally extending trunnions 13 passed over the hand of the on the plate section 14 are plvotall mounted, the opposite ends of the side wa 11 are under out as at 15 and lateral extensions 16 on the plate section 14 are so positioned that they will snap beneath and be retained in these undercut portions 15, as illustrated in Figure 4 to retain the sections of the device in folded position,
In order that the trunnions 13 ma be easily positioned in the openings 12 o the side walls 11, I have slotted as at 17 the stock of the section 10 adjacent each of the side walls so that these walls will be more resilient and spread sufliciently to receive thetrunnions 13.
At the free end of each of the sections slots 18 and 19 are formed through, which the straps 20 and 21 of the watch bracelet may be passed and suitably secured, it being apparent that the strap 21 lies over the convex side of the section 14 when the same is in folded position and thus to a considerable extent hides the extension device.
It will be apparent that the sections are slightly concaved in form to fit the wrist of themwearer and that the device is extremely sim Is in construction and yet durable and e ective in its operation. V
- The foregoin description is directed solely towards t e construction illustrated, butl desire it to be understood that Ireserve the "privilege of resortin to all the mechanical changes to which t e device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited'onlyv by the terms of the appended claims.
. I claim: Y l i 1. An extension device for a flexible bracelet comprising a pair of sheet metal sections, each'having a slot adjacent one end and hingedly'connected together at their opposite ends, integral lateral projections extending from one 'of said sections and formationsonfthe other of said sections to snap behind said lateral projections by resiliency in a longitudinal direction of one of said sections and retain the sections in closed position. V Z I a .2. An extension device for a flexible braceletcomprising a channel-shaped section haviing side walls, a plate section having integral laterally-extendmg trunnions at one end pivof said sections to releasablyr retain the sections in folded position, and means. asso- Lciated with each-of said sections for attachin a strap thereto. a
' An extension device for a flexible bracelet comprising a channel-shaped section having side walls undercut at one end, a plate section having integral laterally-extending trunnions at one end pivoted in said side walls, laterally extending projections at the opposite end'of said plate section positioned to be engaged by the undercut endsof said side walls to releasably retain the sections in folded position, and means associated with each of said sections for attachinga strap thereto,
In testimony CHARLES PATTEN.
whereof I afiix my signature.
