Description

Patented July 19, 1927.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM w. WEIDA, on MAssILLoN, OHIO.
FUSE-PLUG- HOLDER.
Application filed October 12, 1925. Serial No. 62,004.
The invention relates to fuse boxes such as are used for 2200 volt circuits and mounted upon the cross arms of'poles and more particularly to a holder formed upon the ex terior of the fuse box to support the fuse plug when the same is removed from the box. The fuses in these plugs often burn out and need replacing, and repair work is frequently necessary upon the interior of the fuse box; and with the present type of fuse box now in use it is customary for the lineman to either place the fuse plug in his pocket or upon the cross arm of the pole while making repairs within the box .and it is frequently happens that these fuse plugs are dropped from the top of the pole, and since the same are made of porcelain or the like the plug is broken in the fall.
When the lineman has to replace the fuse upon the plug it is necessary for him to hold the fuse plug in one hand leaving only one hand free to do the work of replacing the fuse thereon.
The object of the present invention is to provide a holder or support upon the exterior of the fuse box arranged to receive the knob or handle upon the fuse plug and support the same in a horizontal position in a location which will not interfere with the lineman when repairing the interior of the fuse box and also in'such a position that if the lineman finds it necessary to replace the fuse upon the fuse plug, he has both hands free with which to work as the fuse plug is firmly supported by the holder.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is aperspective view of a fuse box provided with the improved holder or support embodying the invention. shown thereon; v v
Fig. 2, a detached perspective view of the fuse plug removed therefrom;
Fig. 3, a front elevation of the improved fuse box showing the fuse plug in. position therein, and
Fig. 4, a side elevation of the fuse box showing the fuse plug. supported in theholder.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the drawing.
- The fuse box 1 is arranged to be mounted, in inverted position, upon the cross arm of a pole, as by screws or bolts locatedthrough havehereunto subscribed my the apertures 2 therein and the fuse plug 3, arranged to be normally inserted into lower end of the box, the flanged thereon substantially closing the bottom of the box; the usual handle comprising a neck 5 and head 6, being formed thereon. The fuse box and plug may each be formed of porcelain orthe like in usual manner.
The fuse plug may be provided with the usual longitudinal groove or channel 7 upon each side to receive the fuse wire 8 which is bent into substantially U-shape, the ends thereof being connected, as by screws 9, to the contacts 10. i
For the purpose of supporting the plug upon the exterior of the fuse box to permit the lineman to work either inside of'the fuse box or upon the plug, a pair of flanged ribs 11 may be formed upon the front face of the fuse box and curved toward each other at their lower ends as shown at 12. These ribs form a pocket to receive the headed stem 5 of the fuse plug to firmly and rigidly support the plug in horizontal position as shown in Fig. l.
This leaves the workman with both hands free to make repairs within the fuse box or upon the fuse plug itself, the plug being so supported upon the box that it may be turned upon its longitudinal axis to permit easy access to either side thereof. 1
From the above it. will be evident that the fuse plug when removed from the box, may be conveniently supported in a position which will not interfere with the lineman in making repairs upon either the box or plug and which will leave both of his hands free to do the necessary work.
I claim:
1. A fuse box for. outside use upon a pole, a fuse plug arranged to be normally received within the box and means upon the exterior of the fuse box for temporarily supporting the fuse plug to permit a workman upon the pole to make repairs thereon.
2. A fuse box for outside use upon a pole, a fuse plug arranged to be normally re ceived within the box, and provided with a headed stem, and a pocket upon the exterior of the fuse box and receiving said headed Ill stem to temporarily support the fuse plug and permit a workman upon the make repairs thereon.
In testimony that I claim the above, I
name.
WILLIAM w. wnmx.
