. Application filed June 7,
This invention relates to toys andhas for its principal object the provision of an amusing and instructive toy requiring manipulation sufficient to stimulate interest in its use for the education and entertainment of children. k
In carrying out this object Iprovide an open framework wherein a plurality of rotatable blocks are arranged to forma field.
The sides of these blocks carry parts of dif ferent designs so that by properly arranging the blocks different composite designs may be produced.
One form which the invention may assume is exemplified in the following description and illustrated byway of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a toy embodying the preferred form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in perspective showing the manner in which the blocks may be manipulated to produce different designs' 1 v Fig. 3 is a View of the toy in elevation disclosing one of the different designs which may be produced.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 indicates a toyJcomprising a. rectangular open frame formed of rigidly connectedside members 11 and end members 12. Extending between the side members in parallelism with the end members are a plurality of elastic cords 14, which are spaced equal distances apart.
Arranged on each cord 14 is a row of blocks 15 which may be of equal length if desired, but which are here shown as being of unequal length. These blocks are square in cross section and of such dimensions that their adja'cent sides are in intimate contact, so that their exposed surfaces will lie in the same plane providing an unbroken field. As
- there are four sides to the blocks, four different fields may be exposed,.each field having a different design approximately imprinted thereon. Therefore, by rotating the blocks and presenting different fields, different designs may be exposed.
The cords 14 are of elastic material permitting the blocks to be rotated and yieldably maintaining their sides in intimate contact when their adjacent surfaces are in alignment. I
1926. Serial No. 114,852.
The. present invention may be used for educational purposes by forming numbers or parts of words or parts of maps on certain sides of the blocks, so that when the correct sides of all the blocks are disposed in unison a composite map or other data: bearing chart will be exposed.
It is seen that the present toy requires sufficient manipulation to render it amusing and stimulate interest in its use, while at the same time it is instructive and entertaining.
While I have shown the preferred form of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in-its construction by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention. what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
' 1. A toy of the character described comprising an open frame, a plurality of rows of blocks supported in the frame and rotatable therein, the sides of the blocks bearing parts of composite designs, and yieldable supporting means supporting the blocks within the frame and yieldably maintaining the sides of the blocks in intimate contact to present an unbroken field. I
2. A toy of the character described coinrising an open frame, elastic cords extending across the frame atequal distances apart, rows of blocks mounted on each cord, said blocks being of dimensions whereby their sides will be normally disposed in contact and their exposed surfaces in the same plane presenting an unbroken field, the sides of said blocks bearing parts of different composite designs.
3. A toy of the character described comprising a frame composed of rigidly connected side and end members, elastic cords extending between the side members in parallelism to the end members,- rows of blocks rotatably disposed on said cords, the dimensions of said blocks being such that their sides may be normally disposed in contact and with their exposed surfaces in the same plane forming an unbroken field, the
sides of said blocks bearing parts of difl'erent composite designs.
