Description

July 19, 1927.
G. C. CAPPA HEAD FOR EXPLOSION ENGINES III/111111 Filed April 22. 1925 Patented July 19,, 1927..
PATENT OFFICE.
GIULIQ CESARE CAPPA, F TURIN, ITALY.
HEAJ) non EXPLOSION ENGINES.
Application filed April 22, 1925, Serial No. 25,079, and in Italy May 20, 1924.
This invention relates to an improved head for explosion engines, wherein the valves are inclined of a certain angle with respect to the cylinder axis. This arrangement realizes 6 an explosion chamber of a particularly suitable form and allows of the spark plug to be placed in the nearest proximity to the center of the gaseous mass to be ignited.
A further advantage of this invention consists in the fact that the spark plug can be enclosed in the protecting cap covering the upper valve operating mechanisms.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example a constructional form of the improved head according to the invention.
Figure l is a vertical section on a valve and a beam operating rod.
Figure 2 is a section on the spark plug.
Figure 3 shows the interior of the cylinder head seen from below.
1 denotes the working cylinder, with a separately fitted head 2 provided with valves 3, inclined on one side of the cylinder axis and operated by means of beams 4 and rods 5 2 passing through the head and cylinder block.
The spark plug 6 is inclined on the opposite side so as to be protected by the cap .7 covering the beams and valves.
Under certain conditions the spark plug can have a greater inclination as shown in dottedlines and will then project laterally,
outwardly and downwardly from the cap.
It is understood that my invention is not restricted to the construction shown by way of example that can be varied in its details without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. A cylinder head for internal combustion engines comprising a combustion chamber having a substantially pentagonal form, a spark-plug mounted on one side of the head in the upper portion of the chamber and inclined relatively to the cylinder axis, inlet and exhaust valves in the top of the chamber and arranged parallel to one another in a single plane, inclined in relation to said axis in a direction opposite to that of the spark plug, and in proximity to the latter, rocker arms for actuating the valves pivoted in the middle longitudinal plane of the cylinder, and push rods for-actuating the rocker arms arranged parallel to the cylinder axis.
2. The combination with the cylinder of an internal combustion engine, of a head mounted on the cylinder comprising a combustion chamber of substantially pentagonal form, a spark plug mounted at one side in the top of said chamber inclined with respect to the axes of the cylinder, inlet and exhaust valves arranged parallel to one another in the top of the chamber near the center of the latter in close proximity to the spark plug and inclined in relation to said axis in an opposite direction to that of the spark plug, rocker-arms for actuating the valves pivoted above the latter in the middle longitudinal plane, of the cylinder, push rods for actuating the rocker arms arranged parallel to said axis closely adjacent to the cylinder wall, and a cap of the same diameter of the cylinder enclosing the rocker arms, rods, springs and spark plugs.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name.
GIULIO CESARE CAPPA.
