This invention relates to boilericleaners and refers more particularly to boiler ole-iiie'rs of the ty e in which at rotatable blower unit carries nozzles through which steam or other cleaning substance is discharged against the tubes or other surfaces to" be cleaned.
Amen-g the object's of the invention is the provision of a rotatable blower pipe provided with diseihnge orifices and slidable between two limitin positions of use.

through the plunger K to the blower pipe E for the purpose of varying the direction of the jets of steam discharged from said blower pipe. Adjacent said handle a washer 18 mounted upon the stem and {L'COllQCl spring P is arranged between said washer and the plug 11 for-holding the slidable parts normally rearwardly retracted. In Figure 3 there is illustratedin dash lines the posit on occupied by the handle 0 when the sliding parts are in their advanced positions. The bearing of the stem M in the plug H 18 safeguarded against leakage of steam by packing Q retained in position by a gland Q. To permit movement of the handle 0 between the posit-ions indicated in full and in dash lines in Figure 3 the sleeve M is formed with a longitudinally-'extending slot R, the forward end of which communicates wit-h a circumferentially-extending slot R, whereby the necessary rocking movement of the handle member in its forward position is permitted, the permissible extent of said rocking movement being limited through contact of the handle with the slot extremities. T o similarly limit rocking of the handle when in its retracted position, the top portion of the sleeve M at its rear end. is cut away so as to form diametrically opposed shoulders S, constituting stops for the rocking motion of the handle. When steam is admitted to the pipe E from the pipe J, the plunger K is subjected to a considerable pressure, tending to shift it to its advanced position and to resist this forge when the pipe is being used in its retracted. position, a latch member T is hingedly connected to the sleeve M at the rear end of said sleeve and is adapted to be swung across the slot It to form an abutment for the handle 0 as it is being rocked back and forth in its retracted position. When it is desired to advance the blower pipe to its forward working position, itis necessary simply to swing the latch member T to its raised position, as indlcated in dash lines in Figure 5, then shift the handle O into registration with the slot R, whereupon the steam pressure acting on the plunger will carry the sliding parts forward, overcoming the spring P and shifting the handle to its position, indicated in dash lines in Figure \Vhenever steam pressure is cut off from the blower pipe, the spring P will automatically return the sliding parts to their retracted positions provided that the handle 0 is registered with the slot Ii. The stroke of the sliding'parts is preferably equal to the distance between two of the rows of boiler tubes transverse to the pipe E so that the nozzles F of said; pipe will be registered with alternating rows of the boiler tubes in the two'respoctive working positions thereof.
Another feature of the invention resides in the construction of the unit E, the details of which are shown in Figures 3, i and 6. The nozzles F are preferably arranged to project inwardly toward the center of. the unit or pipe E instead of being arranged exteriorly of the unit as heretofore. Each nozzle is provided with an outwardly-e tending projection T which passes through a corresponding aperture in the pipe and preferably has a drive fit therein. Here tofore, it has been customary to weld the entire circumference or contacting portions of the nozzle and. the surrounding wall. of the pipe, but in the present construction I avoid the necessity of such connection by providing the nozzle F with a segmental flange T which fits snugly against the interior-surface of the pipe E and is secured thereto preferably by spot welds T located at two or more points around the segment.
The described construction of the nozzle and manner of connecting it to the blower unit or pipe not only reduces the cost of manufacture and assembly, but gives a very rigid connection and one which, because of the wide contacting area between the flange T and the inner wall of the pipe, furnishes a reinforcement at the nozzle opening. I d not, however, desire to limit the inven' tion to the particular shape of the nozzle shown, norto the other details of construc tion, except as ultimately set forth in the claims.
lVhat I claim as my invention is 1. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a rotatable blower pipe having discharge orifices, of a mounting slidably and rotatably carrying said pipe and adapted to admit steam thereto, a stem projecting rearwardly from said pipe extending oxteriorly of said mounting, a sleeve enclosing said stem carried by said mounting, said sleeve being formed with intersecting longitudmal and circumferential slots, and a crank carried by said stenrwhereby the blower p pe may be rotated, movable in the longitudinal. slot during sliding of the blower pipe, and in the circumferential slot during rotation of said pipe,
2. In a boiler cleaner the combination with a rotatable blower pipe having discharge orifices of a mounting in which said pipe is slidably and rotatably carried, a stem proecting rearwardly from said pipe exteriorly of said mounting, a sleeve surrounding said stem projecting rearwardly from the mountmg, means carried by said stem whereby the blower pipe may be rotated said means being limited in its rotation by said sleeve and a latch member on. the sleeve engageable by said means'to-maintain the blower pipe normally retracted.
3. In a boiler cleaner, the combination with a blower pipe having dischargeopenings, of a. mounting in which said pipe is rotatably and slidably carried, a stem rearwardly projecting from said pipe and extending exteriorly of said mounting, a sleeve surrounding said stem carried by the mounting, said sleeve being longitudinally and circumferentiallyslotted, a crank upon said stein whereby the blower pipe may be rotated .movable in the longitudinal slot of said sleeve during projecting or retraction of the blower pipe and angularly movable in the circumferential slot in the projected position of the blower pipe and a latch member pivoted upon said sleeve normally bridging the longitudinal slot thereof, en-
" gagable by said crank to thereby maintain the blower pipe retracted.
4. The combination with a blower pipe slidable between two limiting positions of use, of means utilizing pressure of the cleaning fluid supplied to said pipe to urge said pipe to one of said limiting positions, and a latch member adjustable to and from a position retaining said blower pipe in its other limiting position. v
5. The combination with amounting having an inlet for a cleaning fluid, of a blower pipe rotatable in said mounting andslidable therein between two limiting positions of use, a rearward extension from said mounting, means utilizing pressure of the cleaning fluid to urge said pipe to one of said limiting positions, and a latch member carried by said extension and pivotally adjustable thereupon to and from a position retaining said blower pipe in its other limiting position.
6. The combination with a blower pipe slidable between two limiting positions of use, of means tending to urge the blower pipe from one limiting position to the other, and
latch mechanism for retaining said blower pipe in the said other limiting position.
