ly opened and closed, to permit the introduc-' tion of the fabric or cloth of the mop, to obviate the usual practice of threading an end of a length of cloth between the jaws of the mop holder, and then pulling the same therethrough, before closing the jaws thereon.

Another object is to provide a mop holder which is simple in construction, and which can be easily operated without the use of any special tools.

Another object is to provide a novel form of cloth clamping means, and means for holding the clamping means in cloth clamping position, as well as the same against accidental release.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, and particularly to Figures 1 to 4, inclusive, 10 represents a portion of the stick, or handle of the mop holder, and secured to one end of said stick, in partially embracing relation thereto, is the shank portion 11, of

one half of the inner jaw 12, of the mop head. The angularly extending portion 13, of the member 11 projects laterally from the end of the stick of the mop, and is terminally bifurcated, as shown at 14, to receive therebetween one end of the outer clamping jaw 15. This end of the jaw 15, which is disposed between the furcations of the member 13 is rebent, at 16, and receives therethrough the pivot member 17, which is also passed through said furcations. The other end of i the jaw 15 is similarly curved or rebent, at 18, and pivetally mounted-in the bifurcated end of the other member 19, of the inner aw. This member 1 9 is also provided with a semi-tubular shank 29, which embraces the remaining portion of the eiidof the stick of the mop, and is provided with an openirg 21, which receives the adjacent end of the bolt 22, which secures the first-named half to the stick. Slidable on the stick, and a.r ranged to enclose theshanks 11 and 20 whereby to maintain the latter shank in 0011 tact with the stick, and to cause its outer portion to cooperate with the corresponding por tion of the other member 11, to maintain a mop cloth tightly gripped between such portions and thejaw bar 15, is a sleeve 23.

When it is desired to place a cloth in the holder, the operator slides the sleeve 23 backwardly onto the stick, whereby to release the shank 20. The operator then swings the shank away from the stick, so

that the parts assume the position shown in Figure 2, after which he drapes a cloth across the jaw 15, with the intermediate portion of the cloth engaged with. said bar. The parts are then swung back into the position of Figure 1, and the sleeve slipped into embracing engagement with the shanks. The intermediate portion of the cloth is thus firmly clamped between the transverse portions of the shank members and the jaw 15.

In the form shown in Figure 5 the shanked members 24; have integral pivot members 25 in their outer ends, with which are engaged the hooked ends of the jaw 15) A leaf spring member 26 extends longitudinally of the jaw 15', and has itsends bifur cated, and disposed in straddling relation to the end portions of said jaw 15'. The remainder of the device is as previously described with respect to the first form. The mop cloth is firmly gripped between the spring 26, which, as clearly seen in Figure 5, is bowed toward the members 24, and the 7 said members.

In the form shown in Figure 6, the outer ends of the members 24 receive slidably therethrough the arms of the yoke 27, the

transverse portion of which corresponds to the clamping jaw 15, of the first form. On the upper ends of the members 24 there are formed teeth 28, which cooperate with the said transverse portion of the yoke, to clamp the intermediate portion of a mop cloth therebetween. On thesaid arms of the yoke,

inwardly of the members 24, are coil springs which urge the yoke in the direction of the members.

What is claimed is: i

1. A mop holder including a stick, a clamping jaw formed of two sections, each section having a complemental shank receiving the stick end, one of the shanks being permanently secured to the stick and the other releasably engageable therewith, a second clamping jaw pivotally connected at each end to the sections forming said first jaw, and means slidable on the stick into and out of embracing relation to the said shanks for holding the parts in mop cloth clamping position.

2. A mop holder including a stick, a T- shaped jaw formed of two sections, each section having a complemental shank which re ceives an end of the stick therein, one of the shanks being fixedly secured to the stick, and the other detachably engaging the stick a second jaw pivotally connected at its ends to the outer ends of said first jaw, and a clamping jaw formed of two sections, each section having a complelnental shank receiving the stick end and a laterally directed portion forming a part of said jaw, one of the shanks being fixedly secured to the stick end and the other releasably engageable therewith, a second clamping jaw having angularly extending ends inovably connected with the outer ends of the laterally directed portions, and a spring member disposed between the first and second jaws and having its ends embracing said angularly extending ends.
