GEORGE E. BRINGIVIAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARTRiDGE-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Ltters Patent No. 163,570, dated May 25, 1875; application tiled October 20, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I7 GEORGE E. BRING-- MAN, of Frankford, in the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable and Safety Cartridge-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a box for carrying metallic cartridges, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a face view with the lid off. Fig. 2 is a view of the lid inverted; and Fig. 3 is a central vertical section.
A represents a circular box of suitable dimensions, and B is the 11d made to fit thereon. In the center of the box A is secured an inverted cup, C, provided with a central oritice, a, having two slots, b b, directly opposite each other. Downward from the center of the lid B projects a T-shaped ear or projection, D, of suitable size to go down through the hole c and slots b, when the lid is placed on the box, and then by turning the lid the arms of the T-shaped projection D will pass under the bottom of the inverted cup O, and
thus lock the lid on the box. Suitable marks should be made on the edge of the box and lid, so as to show the position in which the lid can be removed from the box. A suitable distance from the sides of the box A are projections or ears d d, arranged at equal distances apart in a circle concentric with the box. Between the ears d d the cartridges are placed so as to lie radially in the box, with their heads between the flanges and the sides of the box.
Loose cotton may be used below and above the cartridges to keep them steady in the box.
The object of this invention is to form a safe box, in which to carry metallic cartridges in the pocket. The lock in the center of the box-formed by the parts O and D-prevents the lid from coming od', at the same time the lid can easily be moved or turned, so that it lcan be taken off when desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A circular box, A, provided in the center with the inverted cup O, having aperture a, with slots b b, in combination with the lid B,
provided with the central T-shaped projection D, for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
y GEO. E. BRINGMAN.
