, This invention relates to parcel carriers especially adapted to the use of shoppers.
It is the object of the invention to provide a simple but highly eflicient parcel carr er especially adapted for use by women, whlch may be either carried on the arm, as a shopping bag, or, when filled with parcels, pulled or pushed along the round.
It is a more 3 eci c object to provide in such a device a atwheeled frame, having a collapsible parcel receptacle, detacha ly mounted thereon.
These and other objects of the invent on will be a parent from the followin 'descmption made in connection with the rawlngs, in which like reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views,
and, in which Fig. 1 is a frontelevation with some portions broken away.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the hue 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged rear elevation of the detachable means for connecting the upper end of the parcel receptacle tovthe frame, and
Fig. 4 is a similarenlarged detail viewof the detachable securing means for the bottom of the parcel receptacle.
A rectangular skeleton frame 5 preferably constructed of wire includes a transverse bottom member 6, preferably twisted at its end about the longitudinal side members-5. The frame 5 at its top is bent to form an'upwardly projecting handle 7 and loops 8 at 'both u per corners thereof.v
The ottom ends of the longitudinal side portions 5 of the frame are projected below and beyond the transverse bottom member 6 and bent inwardly'at right angles to form a pair of stub axles 9, which are mounted on a pair of small, preferably rubber-tlred wheels 10.
A flexible rectangular receptacle orparcel bag 11 preferably 'of the expansible type is of the frame.
formed in the en At the bottom corners of receptacle 11-21.
pair of flexible 100 s 13 are stitchedor other- ..wise secured, whic loops are adapted to he.
slipped over a (pair of hooks preferably portions of the transverse bottom members 6. In mounting the stub axles 9 on the wheels 10a pair of small burrs 15 are preferably used on each wheel, one at either side thereof, to provide proper bear-..
in}; shoulders therefor.
The extreme ends of the axles 9 are threaded to engage the outer burr thereby properly securing the wheels to the axles.
The parcel receptacle 11 shown is provided with a large expansible covered pocket 11 and a smaller outside pocket 11", which Y The device is of suflicient height toextend from the ground to the hands of the shopper so that the carrler is normally disposed in upright position when loaded and in use.
, Because of its thin cross section and its normal upright position it will take up little room when dragged-thru a crowded street or store, and will consequently not interfere with pedestrians or other sho pers.
Receptacle 11 may be quick y removed for cleaning or repair. Where the ordinary shopping. bag is used the entire weight of the packages purchased must be carried by the shopper. Thus, a housewife is heavily burdened and considerably fatigued if she has a number of purchases to make.
Considerable actual usage of this inven tion has proven ithighly successful for the purposes intended. It not only relieves the shopper from the weight of the heavy load of bundles but also permits the purchases to be made and brought home in less time without danger of breakage'on the way.
' It is to be understood that considerable changes in the form, details and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the scope of applicants invention, and that the use of the device is to be by no means limited to a parcel carrier for sho pers but may be extended to every reasonab e use to which it may be put.
\ What is claimed is: .1. A parcel carrier for shoppers having in combination a skeleton frame includin a single elongated strip of material form in the shape of an inverted U,'=the upper coriiers of said (sitrip being twisteldtto eonstifilte 00 S oun an aging 8H m mem IS mol irite d on the 1%wer ends di said strip and a flexible parcel receptacle mounted within said frame having means at its upper end adapted to engage said loops to stretch and support said receptacle in operative position. 2. The structure set forth in claim 1 a transverse reinforcing member secured hemamas tween the sides of said U-shaped member adjacent the lower ends of said sides and means for securin the bottom ends of said receptacle to sai reinforcing member.
3. A parcel carrier for shoppers comprising a flat skeleton frame having a handle at its upper end and having its longitudinal sides projected and bent inwardly to form a pair of stub axles, a wheel rotatably secured to each of said axles so formed, and a parcel receptacle secured to said frame.
1 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ANNA M. LAPHAM.
