DAVID L. HAWKINS, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOSE-REGISTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,488, dated May 18, 1875 application filed March 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known'that I, DAVLD L. HAWKINS, of Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Dose-Registers, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is arepresentation of aface view of my dial. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
The object of this invention is to furnish sick persons and nurses for the sick with a simple instrument, by means of which they can keep a correct register or indicator of the times for taking medicine as ordered by their physicians, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, A designates the rectangular baseboard or plate of the instrument, on which a dial-plate, B, is applied and connected to it by means of a central pivot, a. The bottom of this plate is -hollowed out, so that it is supported by a narrow flange, 1), and the top of the plate is flat, or it may be of any other suitable shape. The plate B has twelve inclined sides or facets, on which numbers are printed, ranging from number I to 12, representing twelve hours; and at the angles of the facets the number corresponding to a facet, and also the number 30, which indi- On the base-plate A, I
cates a half-hour.
rigidly secure a pointer, C, so that after a dose of medicine has been given to a patient, the plate B can be turned until the pointer registers with a number on one of the facets corresponding to the hour when the second dose should be given, and so on a proper register can be made of the time or times for giving medicine, thus avoiding mistakes as to the times for giving medicine and the number of doses given.
The instrument may be made of any suitable material, and, if desired, it may be oper ated by means of clock-work, having suitable setting mechanism combined with it.
I am aware that a cover for a tumbler containing medicine, and provided with a dial and movable pointer, has heretofore been employed to indicate the hour at which the next dose of medicine shall be administered to the patient, and I therefore lay no claim to such invention.
I claim- The medicine-register, consisting of a circular, movable, truncated pyramid, 13, having twelve sides numbered as described, and combined with a pointer, which is secured rigidly to a base, A, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
DAVID L. HAWKINS.
