This invention relates to station selector dials for radio receiving sets and its object is to provide a dial of simple construct on which can be easily manipulated to readily secure fine adjustments for selecting diflerent broadcasting stations, as desired.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating selected embodiments of, the invention- Fig. 1 is a plan view showing a pair of stadenser, each of these condensers having ro-' tor plates mounted on rock shafts 11. I have not attempted to show the detail construetion of the condensers because they are familiar in the art and need no further description. Each condenser is supported on a frame 12 which is fastened to the inside of the instrument board 7 The shaft ll carries agear 13 which meshes with a gear-'14 on a sleeve 15 which is rotatably mounted on a spindle 16 rigidly secured in the frame 12. The sleeve 15'has a flange 17 and a dial plate 18' is secured'to the flange by one. or more screws 19' or other suitable means. A dial 19 is clamped against the dial plate by a disk 20, which is screw-threaded on the upper ,end of the sleeve 15 An index plate 21 carrying a pointer 22 is rigidly secured in fixed position on the reduced end 23 of the spindle 16, the outer portion of this reduced end being threaded to receive aclamping nut. 24. The index plate has an aperture 25 with oppositely disposed extensions 26 to engage the spindle and a cross pin 27, carried by the spindle is arranged to engage the extensions 26 of the aperture to hold the index plate in fixed position. -The dial 19 is held'in place on the dial plate 18 by a spring ring 28 of usual constructiomwhich is sprung into a groove 29 formed in the upstanding peripheral Wall 30 of the dial plate. The
outer surface of this wall is preferably knurled or serrated or roughened to facilitate the operation thereof.
In practice the parts being arranged in the usual positionpthe dial plate 18 is manipu lated by turning it back and forth as required to select a desired broadcasting station. The dial plate being fast to the sleeve, any movement of the dial plate is communicated to the rotor plates ofv the condenser through the condenser shaft and gearing intermediate of the shaftand the dial plate sleeve. The two dial plates will be manipulated correspondingly to select a station in the usual manner, and this form ofv station selector. dials will be found adapted forstations will be greatly facilitated.
I am aware that changes in the form, proportion and arrangement of parts of the selected embodiment of the invention illustratedin the drawings may be made without departing from the invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and I reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A station selector dial for a radio re-.
the dial. a dial seated within the dialplate,
and an index pointer rigid with the spindle and projecting over said dial.
2. A-station selector dial for a radio receiving set comprising a fixed spindle, a revoluble sleeve on the spindle, a flange on the sleeve, a dial plate fastened to the flange, a dial on the dial plate,- a disk on the sleeve clamping the dial against the dial plate, and a pointer rigid with the spindle and projecting over the dial. i
3. A station selector dial for a radio receiving set comprising a fixed spindle, a revoluble sleeve on the spindle, a dial plate mounted on the sleeve to revolve therewith, a. peripheral wall on the dial plate and havinga groove the outer, surface of said wall; being roughened,'a dial on said plate, a ring engaging said groove-and clamping the edge of the dial against the dial plate, a disk on the sleeve clamping the central portion of the dial against the dial plate, and a pointer rigid with the spindle and projecting over the dial.
