This invention relates to refrigerators. It is the purpose of the invention to pro vide a water cooler in connection with a power refrigerator or any form of domestic refrigeration other than ice. Inasmuch as the temperature in the so-called brine chamher is usually kept down somewhere around zero, it is impossible to have a water container or a water coil therein for storing water for drinking purposes, as it will obviously freeze and become inoperative. I have devised a simple solution of this roblem by utilizing the extreme cold of the brine chamber for coolingthe water by con-' trolling my system in a Way where the contact of the water with the brine chamber can only be transitory. This achieves the coolin in a very effective simple way.
In line drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of an electrioal refrigerator embodying my new invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a slight modification of the invention. In both these views the door of the refrigerator has been omitted for the purpose of clearness. Referring to Fig. 1, the outline of the cabinet or refrigeratingcase will be clear. Within the upper left hand chamber is provided a so-called brine tank, which is ordinarily however, a solution of alcohol and water. Water is taken up throughthe service line to the back of the refrigerator and then passes down through the brine chamber in the form of a. coil 0, in the brine tank. This coil is given several convolutions so as to bring it into intimate 'contact with the frigid brine. This arrangement has some si militude to the so-called instantaneous gas water-heater, where the water is heated on the run. So here the heat exchange takes place on the run while the water is passing through this frigid zone.
However, in place of putting the water control valve at the spigot of the cock (1, as is the ordinary custom, I have provided it at the point e. Here the val ve is located in a region where the temperature ordinarily does not reach the freezing point and consequently the water backed u in the pipe is not frozen so as to impair its operation. No valve is consequently the spigot is bound to drain itself and all the pipe located in the frigid In order to msure that the cooling placed on the spigot 11,
coil will drain, the coil may be made of 'a cabinet, means for abstracting heat to bring a portion of the interior of said cabinet below the freezing point, and means for transferring running water through such frigid zone to cause flash heat exchange as regards -the running water, said means perinitting the water to drain whereby water is not maintained in such frigid zone.
2. In arefrigerator, the combination of a cabinet, means for giving a portion of the cabinet a freezing temperature, a coil for running drinking water through such frigid zone, anda valve for controlling the water located in the pipe at a point in the rear of where the water enters the frigid zone.
3. .In a refrigerator, the combination of a cabinet, means for establishing a freezing zone in a portion of the cabinet, a pipe for running water for drinking purposes running through said frigid zone and terminating in an open spigot, and means in the rear of a point where the pipe enters the frigid zone for controlling the running of water through said pipe.
4. The combination with a refrigerator havin a cooling medium, means to maintain the temperature of the medium below the freezing point of water, of a pipe runthe same was passed through the cooling ning through the medium for conducting medium, the said cook 'ermitting the water' drinking water, a. valve for controlling'the which is in the pipe orward of the said flow of the 'Water which is positioned outvalve to drain out When thevalve is closed.
5 sideof the medium and to the rear of the In testimony whereof I have'aflixed my point 'where. the pipe enters the medium, signature. and a. cock for the lscharge of wetei after LLOYD G COPEMAN.
