ianfrinuia` SEAT'.
Application filed .Tune 17, 1925. Serial No. 37,834.
My invention relates to bath tub seats, and particularly to a seat adapted to be supported within a tub of the built-1n, roll rim,
or other standard type, and Asuspended from the rim edge.'
An object of thisv invention is to provide a seat which is suspended from the rim edge of tub and is at the same time supported be readily and quickly adjusted to various widths of tubs and the seatings can be locked to retain the adjustment.
A still further object is to so construct the parts that the seat is of simple and inexpensive construction requiring a minimum of labor in assembling, and further that the parts can be packed and shipped in a semiassembled condition to thus save space. Y
W' ith the above and otherobjects in view, which will be apparent to those skilled in the art,`this invention includes certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described in connection with the drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view through a bath tub showing lmy improved seat fitted in position -for use.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the supporting parts in their disassembled relation.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view to better show the manner of assembling the parts. y h i Thevseat 1, of wood or any other suitable material, is made of any desired shape and is somewhat shorter than the transverse width of the narrowest tub with which the seat might be used. Guide clips 2 and 3,
preferably bent up of sheet metal after the manner illustrated in Fig. 2, are secured on the lower side of the seat member 1 adjacent the ends thereof and preferably in alignment, these guide clips being provided with openings 4; to receive screws or other fastenings by which they are secured in place. Extension bracket members 5 and 6, preferably also made of sheet metal, are provided with rib portions 7 to fit within the openings of the guide clips 2 and 3, and these eX- tensionbrackets have the side flanges thereof fitted 1n grooves formed in the seat member l beneath the guide clips'V 2 and 3. Thev grooves within the seat member are` preferably made of suchdepthpthat the guide clips 2 and 3 will tighten down against the side flanges 8 of the extension brackets 5 and 6. y y c The extension bracketsv and 6 have ythe connecting hooks 9 at their outer ends, and the bosses 10 are provided on opposite sides of the hook portions.
bent'to be substantially U-shaped in cross section, are provided with supportingy hooksy 13 at their upper ends, these Vsupporting hooks being widened out as at 14 at their bill Y ends to give a broad bearing portion.v Adjacent the lower extremities these supporting brackets 11 and 12 have the openings 15 formed through their closed sides, these openings being of such length that theV hook` ends 9 of the extension brackets 5 and 6 can be litted therethrough and the bills of the hook ends rwill retain the supporting brackets upon the extension brackets. The bosses 10 on the hook ends -9 engage with the inner sides of the U-shaped form of the supporting brackets 11 and 12 and frictionally hold the parts in place.
Cushion blocks 16, of rubber or other suitable material are shaped to conform substan-` tially 'with the widened bearing portions 111 of the supporting hooks 13, and have .ribs 17 thereon to fit within lthe U-shaped portions of the Ahooks 13 so that the cushion blocks are heldin place. Cushion blocks 18 are provided with ribs 19 to lit within the U-shaped opening of the body of the supporting brackets ,adjacent the other extremi-k tiesfthereof,r and thematerial forming the supporting brackets may be bossed in as at 20 to engage the portion 19 of the cushion block to aid in retaining the same in place.
Supporting brackets 11 and 12, preferably made up of sheet metal In the use of my improved structure the parts are assembled as shown in Fig. 1 and the extension brackets 5 and 6 are adjusted so that the supporting brackets 11 and l2 will fit the tub after the manner illustrated. these seatings of the extension brackets being locked and retained by tightening down the fastenings received throughthe open'- ings 4 of the guide clips 2 and 3. e Vhen the seat is itted in place the cushion blocks 16 fit upon the upper rim edge of the tub to suspend the seat and the cushion blocks 18 bear against the inner side Wall of the tub, which Wall isH usually inclined after the manner shown in Fig. 1, to thus insure that the hook ends of the supporting` brackets will not be t' displaced from the irinifof the tiib land'to lclips .Zand 3 and disasseinbledfrom the supporting brackets 11 and 12.. .The extension brackets jcaii be fitted With their rib portions Z in the sides of the U-shaped body ofthe supporting brackets and the supporting brackets can then be placed onthe'underside of the seat' member 1 adjacent the guide clipsV 2 and 3, 4and the entire structure can be packedin a space or container only slightly larger than vthe seat member 1 r and of a thickness corresponding v.to the thickness of the seat member with the guide clips thereon. The seatmemberl might-.be covered With sheet cork ora cork material, canvbe treated with celluloid coating, or .canjbe painted or Asurfaced in any other `desired manner, and themetal portions can be `readily nickel plated or finished in any other desired manner.
W'hile I have herein shown ancldescribed only certain vspecific embodiments lof my invention and have suggested onlycertain possible modifications, it Will be appreciated thatchanges andvariations canbe magdein the forni, construction, and arrangementjof -parts Without departing from the spirit and scope of invention.
I claim.:
